Since March 16th, The Knowledge House staff and students have been working remotely and holding classes virtually. Since the COVID-19 outbreak began, applications for our upcoming Innovation Fellowship have increased by 89%. We predict this number will increase exponentially over the coming months, as tens of thousands of New Yorkers, if not more, face permanent layoffs and the uncertainty of the future.
The Knowledge House is stepping up to help our community endure. As we head into spring, we are ready to implement contingency plans that not only sustain our operations and growth but also assist New Yorkers with adjusting to drastic workforce changes.
The need for The Knowledge House’s digital skills programming and our commitment to our mission is greater now than ever before!
We are actively seeking partnerships and resources right now to support the expansion of our program so that we can respond to the growing numbers of unemployment that will be plaguing our city for the foreseeable future.
We are also prepared to launch our 2020 Innovation Fellowship as planned in September and will operate the program virtually if needed at that time. Further, we are:
-
Offering digital skills webinars to the general public with a focus on helping workers transition to remote work
-
Providing teachers and parents with computer science resources to support distance learning
-
Sharing our student and alumni success stories to keep our network connected and supported through challenging job searches
In April, The Knowledge House is launching our Instagram TV channel to make our content accessible to all. We are also launching a communications effort backed by social media to make sure we can reach all new job seekers, engage our supporters, and inspire our community to stay encouraged.
We have no intention of letting COVID-19 slow us down, but we need all the help we can get. Please share this video and our attached flyer with any young person or job seeker in need.
