New or Noteworthy News

  • New! "Resources for Seniors" is a new page on our website under "Latest News", that will be updated regularly to provide you the latest information to help you stay healthy and safe, including a list of resources during the Covid-19 situation. There is a lot of information, but the key messages are: STAY HOME; IF YOU MUST GO OUT, PRACTICE PHYSICAL DISTANCING; AND WASH YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY WITH SOAP.

  • New! Survey Time (Covid-19 Edition) As you know, MWSA is currently closed. We want to know how we can help you during this time and what MWSA means to you. Thank you for your time and we look forward to reading your responses.
  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION from the Government of Alberta, announced March 25, 2020: To protect the health and safety of Albertans, law enforcement agencies now have full authority to enforce public health orders and issue fines for violations.

Mandatory 14-day self-isolation for returning international travellers (SNOW BIRDS returning from the USA) or close contacts of people with confirmed COVID-19.
Mandatory 10-day self-isolation for people with symptoms that are not related to a pre-existing illness or health condition: cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose or sore throat.
Violation of mass gathering restrictions are now legally enforceable and subject to fines.
  • REMINDER: MWSA may be closed, but our phone lines are still open! If you need Outreach Support, please call 780-496-2997. Our Home Support Services Line (for referrals to home servies like snow removal, junk removal, etc...): 587-594-7884. Our phone line is open Monday-Fridays, 8:30 am-4:30 pm. If you are in a crisis or distress, you can call the 24/7 Distress Line: 780-482-4357.  Other mental health resources available at the Canadian Mental Health Association

  • Reminder: Join our Mill Woods Seniors Association Seniors Facebook Group Connect with MWSA members online  to share stories, resources and stay socially connected.

  • 2nd Floor Cafe remains closed. If you require prepared meals, we recommend Meals on Wheels, a meal delivery service that will be continuing during this crisis.

U of A Medical Students Offer Free Grocery Delivery Service

This is a VOLUNTEER PROGRAM to bridge the gap of accessibility, while promoting health and safety of our community so we are not charging any service or delivery fee. The drivers will be medical school volunteers who have had police and background checks done by the University of Alberta.
Community members may opt for two options through an online google form or phone:
They place an online order at a grocery store, we retrieve the order and deliver to their home.
They give us a list of groceries that we shop for, send them the total cost, and then deliver to their home.
This delivery model involves a no-contact method for community members i.e. we would either take e-transfers prior to delivering or cash in envelopes left outside the door, and deliver at the door without contact.

If you need this service, or know any members of the community who could benefit from it, here is the online order form: https://forms.gle/F5u4v1WNYh3vwoRv8

Check our new Resource Page for more ideas on how to stay busy when MWSA is closed.

One good thing you can do this week:   The future is uncertain right now, but you can focus on the present by doing something that you have been putting off for a long time.

"The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time."-Abraham Lincoln
