Hello all,
We had another beautiful weekend this past weekend, so Tasha and I jumped on that opportunity to see how the hives were doing. All 3 hives and the observation hives were flying and very active! I had some candy board left over from the last time I fed, so I took that along with me just incase. I lifted the lid on all three hives and found they had eaten all the candy I had put in the last time I was up there so I put the rest of what I had in there. Hopefully, this is the last little push before we start the natural nectar flow. We didn't do a full inspection of the hives, just a feed, but we took a deeper look at the observation hive so we could try and estimate where the hives are at right now. The observation hive had eggs, larvae, and brood. The bees didn't have much in the way of nectar, but they were packing in some bright yellow pollen! The foothills always provide a steady stream of pollen for our bees which is nice.
With this current outbreak, a lot is up in the air, the status of our inspections included. We should have a clearer idea of where we are as a community and what our summers are going to be like. The pandemic will likely impact our ability to host inspections and teach face to face, but Tasha and I hope we can still provide you with knowledge and tips to help you have a successful season and keep your bees healthy. We will continue taking pictures, making updates, and reporting what we're doing in our hives and what you should be doing during the year. We'll know more after this 21 day order ends and we will keep you informed. In the mean time, I hope you and your families are staying happy and healthy!
