In the BEST of times, I recommend that clients review their estate docs annually. In extraordinary times… well, think of this as “triage” for your Estate Plan. A quick look to make CERTAIN that everything is in proper order and reflects your most current wishes.
We'll make sure you get this checked off your list of things to do… Look at you getting things done while you’re working from home!
While we're at it, there's the new tax act!
Clients are Often
Surprised
Have you considered how the New 2020
Tax Act could impact your estate plan?
It's important you do!
Before things took this unexpected turn - before “Flatten the Curve” and “Social Distancing” became part of the global vernacular, 2020 was already shaping up to be a busy year.
When the new SECURE Act went into effect on January, 1, 2020, the phone started ringing. Clients had questions and needed to understand how this would affect their retirement accounts.
The positive and not-so-positive aspects of this New Tax Act should be of immediate concern. In specific, when it comes to retirement vehicles, we need to pay attention re changes to
- Distributions time-frame to beneficiaries
- Age ban re retirement contributions
- Required minimum distributions (RMD)
- Penalties on early withdrawals
- Retirement participation re PT workers
And there is more...
It certainly warrants a discussion!
Does it Matter?
Yes.
Because things are changing rapidly.
Because your priorities may have shifted.
Because it may have been a while since your last document review.
The Good News is… there ARE things you can do today, from home, to make sure your estate is in order.
It’s a smart time to take a look at your estate plan, revise things as needed, and take advantage of new options wherever possible. Let’s make sure your hard-earned money stays in your pocket and your beneficiaries are provided for in a way that still makes sense. Now, more than ever, it’s important to make sure everything works to your advantage!
Use this time to plan effectively, be proactive, and control what you can.
