Infrastructure News

Tēnā koe

Thank you to all our suppliers who have been working with our school communities to suspend works as we move to COVID-19 alert level 4. Ngā mihi nui ki a koe.

Now we are at level 4, no one is to go on school sites until the level changes. If there is an emergency, Police and/or Fire and Emergency NZ will respond.

Making sure our suppliers are paid is always a priority for us and this continues. We will continue to pay invoices during the level 4 alert period and will ensure they are paid on time. If you have any questions, please call or email your Ministry representative, they are still available during this time.

Despite the unprecedented circumstances we are all in, you do not need to send us specific early warning notices for each of your contracts for contractor and consultancy services. We will be working through contractual claims in due course.

We’re continuing to review our procurement pipeline in light of the current situation. For procurements that are currently in the market, please contact the Ministry point of contact identified on the tender documents.

The Government is responding to the impacts on the construction sector across the board.

The Construction Sector Accord Steering Group (ASG) is working closely with the Government and relevant agencies to provide advice on the support and information needed across the Construction Sector.

On Monday, the ASG met with the Minister for Building and Construction to discuss the situation and inform the action needed from the Government to support the industry during this uncertain time.

Some initial information has been created for those in the building and construction sector. This is a very fast-moving situation with information being updated regularly. Please visit www.building.govt.nz/covid-19/ for the latest from an All-of-Government perspective.

We also now have some clarity on what ‘essential services’ look like for the building and construction sector. The below is from www.covid19.govt.nz:
  • Any entity involved in building and construction related to essential services and critical infrastructure
  • Any entity involved in building and construction required immediately to maintain human health and safety at home or work
  • Any entity that performs or is involved in building and resource consenting necessary for the above purposes
We will continue to update you through this newsletter over the coming weeks. If you have colleagues who would like to be across our response, they can sign up on our online subscription page. All our past updates are also available in the online archive.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please email askus.procurement@education.govt.nz
