Dear Friends of Quo Vadis,

As we write to you today, the COVID-19 Virus is spreading and causing great fear. It is leaving many wondering how many deaths this pandemic may cause, what is waiting for us in the future, and when will this all end...
Those questions may run through our heads, but my mind goes to Job 38:11 which says that the Lord tells the ocean's waves how far they can go and He has the situation of the world perfectly under control. This is good enough for me.
Let us keep trusting the Lord through the roaring waves of our lives and let us not fear!

Our Lord tells us that even if the worst happens, even if we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, God will be there with us. Psalm 23:4.

Love, Lisa.

Message From Our President

Where is your faith?

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

The world has suddenly plunged into unprecedented times. Times of fear and crisis! Our world has forever changed again.

Currently we have approx. 422,000 people in the wold exposed to the corona virus and as far as the statistics show, about 18,887 deaths.  As of recently China has now quarantined 26 million people, this is an extremely high number of people who cannot move and are bound to their home locations. There are many other countries doing the same thing.

I am sure you are all witnessing some kind of restrictions on your end especially with some businesses and stores being closed, borders closed, banks reducing their hours, line ups and the stress of having your church possibly closed as well. It is hard to get anywhere without massive delays. My brother in Czech said that everyone over 70 is not allowed to leave their homes.

Many people feel demoralized because of the virus and the shutdowns everywhere. To speculate on how long this plague will last, how this will affect our lives- the economy and the world -should not be our focus, this only brings worry and fear. Our focus should be to give people hope and security. That security is only in Christ our Lord.  Our faith must be in God who sits on the throne, above the circle of the earth. He is with us in the middle of the storm. The fear that is around us means that we might lose courage, but real courage means you face the fear head on!  It is in the storm that your strength will be revealed.

Friends, speak out the promises of God!  Remember how He has helped you and saved you in the past, remember that God’s presence is with us and He is our refuge and ever-present help in trouble.  Our eyes and our mind must be on the Lord!  Romans 8 says that nothing can separate us from the love of God, no death, no persecution, famine, and I believe also no virus can separate us from Him.

While the churches and facilities are closed and we still have relatively free time to witness for Him, we must reach out to the world and labor with all our might in the advancement of the Great Commission. Time is narrowing our opportunities and I believe soon we will not be able to do something useful for the Lord.

We are to be witnesses in word and deed, and our proclamation of the gospel must also be a demonstration of the life and power of the gospel. Let us always maintain a biblical balance between faithful service in the cause of Christ and personal devotion to the spiritual discipline that is necessary for conformity to Christ. Let us also pray as never before that God will open the door for the message to reach the hearts of those fearful people, because they see in us a demonstration of peace of God. We pray that our work in Quo Vadis will shed the light and hope upon this planet in the darkness around us! Please pray for us and with us.

Peace of God must prevail in our lives, let us study the Word, pray without ceasing, reach out to your neighbors with comfort and love. May we be true reflections of Christ and useful tools in the hands of God.

“ I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet, but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Phil 3:12-14)

I hope and pray that this edition of the newsletter will find you well and growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Prayer Thought...

Can you feel the fear in the air?  Can you sense the panic?  Does it creep into your heart at times?
There is no fear in love: true love has no room for fear, because where fear is, there is pain; and he who is not free from fear is not complete in love.  1 John 4:18 (BBE)
Surrendered fear is a powerful thing.  I know, because I used to live my life ruled by my fears, which were many, but God has and continues to deliver me as I allow Him access to it.

I don't remember what prompted me to take an evaluation, one day, as to how many decisions I made were fear based, but I did it, and was completely appalled at how almost all my decisions had fear as the underlying base for them, if I went to the bottom line.  Even simple things, like what to make for lunch!

Fear was so ingrained in my thinking that I didn't even recognize that it was there, until God opened my eyes to it through that exercise.  If you had told me I was fearful I would have struggled to believe you - it was that much a life-long part of me.  I knew a couple of areas where I was fearful, but had no clue as to the depth of it in my heart.

How empowering it is to have freedom from it!  How I thank God that when we surrender our feelings to Him and ask for His in their place, that He does it, and does it thoroughly!  Truly, when the Son makes us free, we are free indeed!  And we never want to go back to that place of darkness.

How free are you?

I'm praying for you,

Erna
