A friendly reminder from the SAFIR Coalition to stay safe and healthy during this period!

Highlights from Recent SAFIR Events

- Chat & Chew Sessions -
SAFIR visits Vero Beach High School, Sebastian River High School, and Charter High School each month to conduct Chat & Chew sessions during lunch using our wheel of substance topics. SAFIR engages the youth in their knowledge of substances and engages in dialogue surrounding issues in our county. A big THANK YOU to Phoenix Rising Wellness Center for helping us!
- AVOID Program -
Indian River County Youth participated in a 5 lesson AVOID program (Anti-Vaping Online Information Dissemination) research project that is designed to educate students about the risks of vaping e-cigarettes, commonly referred to as vapes.

Thank you to Vero Beach Lieutenant Phil Huddy for holding a session at the police department and Phyllis Schneider for conducting a session for the SAFIR Youth Coalition!
- Sticker Shock Campaign -

Some adults do not perceive youth consumption of alcohol as a danger. Some even feel a sense of relief that it’s only alcohol and not a “real” drug. But, alcohol remains the drug most abused by our youth population. Most youths get alcohol from home, their friends and other adults, with or without their parents’ permission.

Our youth coalition went out yesterday March 2 and put bright color stickers on beer and other alcoholic drinks with the message of "STOP...It is illegal to buy alcohol for youth". Did you see our stickers around town?

We would like to thank the following stores in Vero Beach: Publix Grocery Store, 7-11, and Grocery Express!

- Bingo Event -
Thank you to everyone who came out for our first BINGO fundraiser! We had a great turnout, with some awesome prizes. Thank you to the Elks for having us and a big shoutout to all our sponsors of the baskets and food!

The next bingo fundraiser, originally scheduled for April 1st, has been postponed. Keep your eye out on our website and Facebook when we are able to schedule a new time.
