Thanks so much to everyone who attended our Studio Showing and Artist Talk. We shared an excerpt from new work in progress and engaged in conversation regarding the vision and creation process for VITALITY and the speed of life, our new work by Artistic Director, Jolene Bailie.

Dancers performing at showing: Hélène Le Moullec Mancini, Julious Gambalan, Shawn Maclaine, Warren McClelland, Aaron Paul, Sam Penner, and Camila Schujman.

VITALITY and the speed of life has since been postponed. This work will be rescheduled.

WCD is closely monitoring information regarding COVID-19. The health and safety of our artists, patrons, renters, and staff are a priority. We are currently following the recommendations of the World Health Organization, Health Canada, and the Government of Manitoba

Read WCD's COVID-19 update here.

On our last day of rehearsals, we asked the dancers a few questions. This was our final rehearsal before we had to suspend our work due to government recommendations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What does VITALITY mean to you?

Hélène: Constant, moving, energy.
Warren: Life, vigor, excitement.
Shawn: Health and growth.
Sam: ...that indefinable inner drive to keep moving, learning, and growing through life.
Julious: In a time of crisis in the world, you need vitality to keep going, even though things can get rough. You need to trust yourself that you can and will get through anything and everything that is placed in front of you.

What’s your favourite moment in the work?

Carol-Ann: I love so many moments, especially kissing Warren all over his chest. :)
Camila: The “sevens”.
Warren: Carol-Ann standing on my shoulders.
Shawn: Being together in the “wall”.
Sam: There’s an extended section of holding hands, with all of us in a line. There a lovely, calm sense of listening in the body that is just so satisfying.

What do you like most about dancing for WCD?

Carol-Ann: Jolene Bailie’s leadership and creations are something truly remarkable to behold. I am honoured to be here.
Hélène: Feeling strong, valued, and appreciated for my chosen craft.
Camila: The friendly, creative, and supportive environment.
Warren: Community.
