Featured Dog:

Dudley

Who could resist this sweet face? Meet Dudley! He came to LHS as an unclaimed stray, and we believe he is approximately 15 months old. This fella has lots of energy, but is a very quick study.  An owner or owners who are committed and will provide consistency will find themselves with an AMAZING pup! This fella has lots of love to give, and wants to learn anything you can show him.
Featured Cat:  Chi Chi

This feisty little kitten was found alone in an office building late on a Friday afternoon, very hungry,  and with a badly infected eye.  She received care for the eye, but alas, it was far too late and she is blind in that eye. The vet feels that it should be removed when she is a little older.
Chi Chi is black and white, medium hair, with a divided colored face. Her nose has the cutest smear of black.  She is a sweet, friendly little one, and will need a safe, loving home. When the time is right, LHS will cover the cost of the surgery.  If you would be able to welcome her into your home, please fill out an application.

Animal shelters are considered essential under the state's corona virus guidelines and volunteers are still here everyday taking care of the animals. Although our open adoption hours are suspended, you can call us at 672-1991, visit our Facebook page (Lakeshore Humane Society, Inc) or connect with us through our website: www.lakeshorehumanesociety.org.

NCCS Welcomes LHS for Assembly

Northern Chautauqua Catholic School is collecting donations and pennies for LHS for the season of Lent with the theme of Generosity. Principal Mr. Ludwig invited LHS volunteers Bill and Sue Styborski to present at a school assembly. Rogue, a chocolate lab mix, was the star of the show and loved all the attention afterwards!

PetSmart
Adoption
Weekend

Peanut (in front), Sky (under the table), and Rogue (behind the table), along with an assortment of cats lounging in the crates, were on hand to welcome customers to the Dunkirk PetSmart on March 1st as part of National Adoption Weekend.

And Rogue loved the large selection of toys.

Birthday Boy Gives to LHS

Lakeshore Humane Society received a large supply of new toys, food, blankets, and cleaning supplies from Alex (holding Casper) who asked for donations for the animals for his 10th birthday instead of gifts!
Antique Club Generous to the End
The Cattaraugus Antique Equipment Club is dissolving and disbursing its assets. The membership voted to make a $1000 donation to Lakeshore Humane Society. Thank you for this tremendous show of support!

A Message from the Board

During these times of uncertainty with the COVID-19 crisis, the Lakeshore Humane Society is working full time to ensure the shelter animals do not miss any of the quality care we offer daily to the pets in our custody.   But such as the case with everyone who has been impacted by COVID-19, LHS is undergoing some temporary changes to try and stay ahead of the fluid times which we are all undergoing.

1.    There will be no open hours to the public.
2.    The adoption center is only open to limited volunteers for care of the animals.
3.    Adoption applications are available online at lakeshorehumanesociety.org and
pictures of available dogs and cats are on our website and our face book page.
Approved applications will be notified by phone.
4.    No additional animals will be taken in.
Being a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, LHS will be relying on donations more than ever over the course of the next few months.  Fundraising events are currently on hold and we do not know when events will be scheduled again.  The 16th Annual Pat McGee Dog Walk and Woofstock Festival is currently scheduled for June 20th but the date may be changed depending on COVID- 19 pandemic.  All changes will be announced via face book and the LHS website.

LHS is always in need of cleaning supplies such as bleach, laundry soap, anti-bacterial sprays, Clorox wipes and paper towels.  These items can be left at the front doors of the Adoption Center.  Financial donations are always in need and can mailed to LHS at 413 E. Chestnut Street Dunkirk, New York 14048.
We want to reassure you that the Centers for Disease Control and World Heath Organization have issued advisories saying there is no evidence at this time that companion animals can spread the COVID-19 Virus. Updates can be found on the World Health Organization's website.

For now, we must do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect our community. Social distancing is an essential means to this goal. Stay safe everyone and thank you for understanding!
No Used Items, Please

We are no longer taking donated items other than NEW & Unopened Cleaning Supplies or Paper Products. At this time we can no longer accept used items such as towels, linens, and blankets. Thank you for your understanding.

Free Books

Although our doors are closed, you can still access the LHS Little Free Library outside the front door. Pick out a book or two to while away the extra time spent at home these days. The selection is always changing, so you are sure to find something you will enjoy.
