The journey towards total integration of Sacred Organic Intelligence into your life involves a very simple ceremony. It is called “The Talking Tree Ceremony.” Begin by selecting a secluded spot with trees in either a city park or a more rural setting, if possible. Bring with you some loose tobacco and/or some corn Paho (meal). Scan the trees and pick one that attracts your attention more than others. Go to this tree and demonstrate your respect by offering the tobacco or Paho to it and sprinkling it around the base. Announce to it that you want to do a sacred ceremony, The Talking Tree Ceremony, and that you want to ask it questions about yourself. Find the South direction and sit on the ground with your back to the tree and leaning against it. Ask in a firm voice: “Where did I come from?” Remain quiet and listen. Do not judge or have expectations on either hearing anything or not. Allow things to simply unfold. If you get an answer, thank the tree and move to the West. Again, sit against the tree. Ask: “Where am I going?” Again, remain silent and allow the process to unfold around you. Feel the energy of the tree and allow your heart to merge with its energy. Imagine that it is an old Grandmother or Grandfather and it wants to enfold you with its arms and comfort you. When you get an answer, move to the North. Sit against the tree: “What is my Sacred Dream?” When you have your answer, move to the East. “What is my path with Heart?” After you get your answer, rise and turn toward the tree. Offer your thanks and respect. The ceremony is now complete.
This simple ceremony, whether you get any results the first time or not, allows you the opportunity to demonstrate your respect and honor of Grandmother Earth and your gift of life upon Her. Continue this ceremony at least once a month for a year. At the end of the year, your knowledge of yourself and your relationship with your environment will be radically altered.
