With the recent switch to virtual meetings, we want to offer you some tips and resources to help you navigate this time of quick change.
In this issue:
  • Rev. Shad Groverland offers instructions on how to protect your Zoom meeting from unwanted posts.
  • Sue Riley, of emPower Music & Arts, lets you know about expanded licensing to cover livestreaming music and videos.
  • Our Connection Space can help with your questions by offering online calls and trainings on topics that you need to know about now. Calls are archived for your convenience.
We hope you are learning quickly and enjoying connecting to your congregants in new ways.

Protect Your Zoom Meeting

Sunday, March 22, 2020, was an important day for most houses of worship in the United States. The COVID-19 coronavirus situation led many to host their services online for the first time. While it took some scrambling by church staff and especially technology teams, we are happy to report that many of our ministries successfully hosted their initial online services!

Rev. Shad Groverland of Unity of Boulder, Colorado, ran into an unfortunate incident on Zoom that he wants to help everyone to avoid. Please read his instructions (on pdf) for setting up your Zoom meeting to protect your sacred space from unwanted online intrusions.

Updated Licensing for Livestreaming Music and Videos

Many churches have been writing to emPower Music & Arts for advice on licensing music for your livestreaming and Facebook Live offerings. EmPower also has advice for when Facebook flags your videos as being in violation of their rules. Read emPower's advice on these topics and see the list of their musicians who have extended licensing rights for livestreaming.

We will update this information as we receive it on our Rapid Response webpage.

Connection Space

Connection Space is designed to be a time of community and Q&A on a variety of timely topics. Each session will feature a specific topic and will be staffed by facilitators well versed in the subject matter. The facilitators will share their knowledge and then offer a time for Q&A. There is no need to register, just show up with your questions. Our intention is to offer a Connection Space on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Thank you for your patience as we get it set up.

Yours in Unity,

Rev. Patricia T. Bass
