On Thursday evenings Rev. Roberta and Rev. Marti will facilitate a drop-in conversation space where we can check in with each other, share challenges and blessings, and support each other pastorally. You can join this conversation Thursday at 7 pm at https://zoom.us/j/550218412.
The UUCJ campus and office are now closed to the public, as you all know, but Virginia (our Church Administrator) and Judy (our bookkeeper) are both working hard to make sure that our bills get paid on time, that your pledges and donations (thank youuuuu!) are processed as swiftly as possible, and that continued administrative duties are taken care of. Virginia continues to monitor and respond to all church emails and voicemails, either remotely from home or during occasional visits to our campus (when she picks up the physical mail.) Please know that your staff is ever present and devoted as always to doing its job.
When you next visit UUCJ, please look for the newly installed plaque celebrating our historic church. It is on the wall adjacent to the Admin Office door.
Recently, Larissa Hinman, a former member of this church, was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, requiring surgery, chemotherapy, and possible radiation. The Hinman’s have two girls, Sophia and Saabella, ages 11 and 8. The coronavirus is making her recovery especially difficult, and she will not be able to work for some time. A close friend of the family created a GoFundMe page for those who may wish to provide some support for Larissa and her family. Here is the link, where your contribution to their comfort and solace will be greatly appreciated: https://www.gofundme.com/f/hinman-family-assistance
You may be tempted to polish off that container of ice cream as you sit home isolated and bored. But don’t do it! Maintaining a healthy microbiome impacts the immune system by 75%. Eating the wrong foods (sugar, processed food, junk) can shift a healthy immune system within three days. Eat fermented foods to increase the number of good bacteria in your gut. This will increase your serum IGA levels which fight infection. Optimize your Vitamin D- take 2,000-3,000IU daily if needed. And if you are vegan, take B12 sublingual 500-1,000mcg 2-3x/week. Here is a web site from Forks over Knives with a list of foods you should have when quarantined:

Eat well, exercise, sleep, engage your brain, and stay connected. Hope to see you soon.
Please visit the UUCJ Breeze directory at uucj.breezechms.com. You will be surprised that many profiles now have a picture associated with them! UUCJ Staff allowed Carlos to update these profile pictures from the many photos he has taken over the years.
Carlos attempted to use the most current photos he had of you. Sometimes he had good closeups to work with, and other times he took the picture from the third row at service auction. While he tried to be careful, he may have made you look a few years younger and you may have a different haircut or hair color. Please review the pictures to ensure that you are presented as you would like to be on UUCJ Directory.
If you do not like the photo, please upload a better image of yourself. You can do this by clicking in the profile picture and hit the upload button. You can also update your profile information as well (such as your address, email, and phone number). If you don’t have a login for the Breeze directory, or need help editing your information, email tina@uucj.org.
We are encouraging individuals to take food contributions to Arlington Community Services because of the continued need for their clients.
Carlos has talked to ACS Staff and worked out delivery protocol. We will unload groceries (not using reusable bags) at the back door keeping our distance from other donors.
When groceries are all by the back door, we will ring the bell and step away from the appropriate social distance until they take groceries into the back room. We plan to label our donation as being from the UU Church of Jacksonville. ACS will e-mail me with contribution total.
I suggest that you follow this process to reduce interaction with ACS volunteer staff that is interacting with the ACS Clients.
