Dear Temple Beth Israel Members and Friends,

We are happy to share some good news in this difficult time. Earlier this week, Temple Beth Israel officially hired Rabbi Alyson Solomon (see her resume here) to serve as our Director of Community Education (see job description here). Some of you met her when she visited in January. We are delighted that starting this summer, Rabbi Solomon will bring her passionate and engaging presence to our community.

In order to best serve the Eugene Jewish community, TBI must attend to the needs of both short-term survival and long-term thriving. In these uncertain times, those needs can appear contradictory. Because of the disruptions to our programming caused by COVID-19, we have had to lay off Preschool staff and one of our caretakers. We are working with those staff to ensure they have health insurance and the maximum unemployment benefits available. We intend to rehire them as soon as we restart our regular programming. We have full confidence that will happen, in part because your past generosity, and the careful stewardship of our leaders, has left us with reserves to draw on.

Our community has been trying to hire a Director of Community Education for over a year and a half, and we are confident that Rabbi Solomon will be wonderful for the long-term thriving of our community. We are investing in that vision, even as we navigate the difficulties of the current moment.

In a couple of weeks, we will send out April membership statements. We appreciate your pledged monthly “Our Shared Commitment” contributions to Temple Beth Israel. Your continued contributions, along with the virtual Dream Auction on May 3rd (stay tuned for info), will sustain us in the short-term. Together, we will thrive in the long-term.

If you need support from TBI, please let us know. We would love to hear from you, and see you, at our many weekly programs.

Now, more than ever, we are aware of how important community is. Thank you for being part of the TBI community.

With blessings for health and Shabbat Shalom,

Jeff Kirtner, President  tbipresident@tbieugene.org
