Leonay Golf Member News
27th March 2020

Mini-Newsletter

We appreciate these Newsletters are coming thick-and-fast at the moment, but in an attempt to keep all members up to date, here's another one. It does contain important information, so please take the time to read it.
Support Your Club

As most members will be aware, the Sporting Club has had to close its doors and is fighting for its (and the golf course's) very survival. This is unfortunate timing as the recent renovations have seen strong returns. The primary source of income for the club now falls back onto the golf course. It's vital that this income not only continues, but is maximised as best as can be allowed under the current circumstances. While rule changes and social distancing may make it a little less convenient for us all, let's show everyone what makes us 'Leonay', continue to enjoy the game we love and support the club at the same time.

To that end, CEO Andrew Gardner, the EPSC Board and both Golf Committees have put a number of temporary changes in place to assist with obtaining the outcome that we all want. Some of these changes are;
  • A reduction in competition prizes by half, as well as a reduced number of golf balls in the Ball Comp.

  • Competition fees remain the same at this time. However, where normally a golfing member could have a social round by simply reporting to the Pro Shop, this will also now attract a $5 fee. This fee only affects social golf, and will not be in place for competition golf.

  • A request that, while points and prizes earned on you golf card can be spent on Pro Shop products, members delay this where possible as it will help with short-term cash flow. Points expiration has been suspended - no one's points will expire until at least six months after the clubhouse re-opens.

  • The Club will be trialing a condensed take-away menu from the mobile kitchen now located near the front entrance of the Club. This will be available initially from Tuesday through to Saturday only, 12pm to 2pm and 6pm to 8pm each day. There will be a small variety of take away meals available as well as a selection of 'take home and heat' meals. We've all got to eat, and we know the food is good, so let's take advantage of this new arrangement.

  • Monday competition - usually reserved for veterans - will now be open to all age groups.

And if you haven't already seen it, a 'Go-Fund-Me' page has been set up to help save the club. Already some very generous donations have been given, and to those people we should all be grateful. Again, let's show everyone the spirit of Leonay Golf Club and donate what we can. You can do this by clicking below. Every little bit helps!

Tee Lotto Suspended

Obviously with the clubhouse being closed, April's Tee Lotto will not go ahead next Friday (03/04/20). Current March Tee times will carry over into April. We understand some people were not playing at their preferred times during March and this will now be extended into April. This is not a long term solution, and better, fairer options will be explored for May's Tee times.

Please remember, the most important thing at the moment is to stay safe, but we also need to continue to patronise Emu Sports Club, and the best way to do that is to keep on golfing and practice the social distancing rules in place.
Sunday Golf - Survey

On the last Sunday of each month we hold the Quick Fire 9 competition. However, we'd like to explore the option of running this more regularly, and perhaps make it a full 18 holes. This is where you come in....

Please click on the link below to take a quick survey regarding this. It's only ten questions, it's anonymous, and you're honest and open opinion is very valuable here. Please only take the survey once (duplicates are identifiable) but please take it. We need as much feedback on this as we can if we're to make it successful. If you're a Mens or Ladies golfing member or even a regular visitor, we'd love to hear from you.

Ladies Wednesday Golf

The Ladies Committee have decided to suspend official golf competition for the time being, but would like everyone to know that they will still be playing socially every Wednesday starting at 8.30am. As stated above, this will only cost $5 each. And as always Ladies are welcome to play Monday, Thursday or Saturday in those competitions.

Here's a picture taken last week of them celebrating both Easter and Social Distancing all at once. Good on ya Ladies....
