On the 25th of March, President of the European Chamber of Commerce (Singapore) Federico Donato shared a message with our members and community on the COVID-19 situation as well as an update on our events, and the new measures and policies that have been implemented at the EuroCham office in Singapore.

 

Sustainability is the focus of our activities in 2020 and EuroCham will be executing a series of activities under the title "European Excellence in Sustainability" including breakfast talks, surveys, a white book and the Sustainability Awards. The project is in line with the commitments and ambitions of Singapore towards the 2015 Paris Agreement.

The goal of this project is to show the degree of involvement of European companies within Sustainability. We want to provide these companies with a platform to share their initiatives in reducing carbon and waste, revenues derived from clean products, their effort in providing green energy solutions, and overall attempts to preserve our planet while still being profitable.

The results of our sustainability survey will be incorporated in a position paper and will be presented to relevant Singapore governmental entities as a basis for an open discussion. The paper will include the quantitative findings of this survey as well as recommendations to the Government, so that we close the gap between companies needs and government efforts. This will also allow us to raise awareness in the sustainability area.

On the 12th of March 2020, EuroCham kicked off our inaugural European Excellence in Sustainability Session at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy with the focus on Smart Mobility. EuroCham president Mr Federico Donato gave an introduction not only to the importance of mobility in the whole framework of sustainability but also a summary of how the Sustainability Sharing Sessions form one of the pillars of EuroCham's sustainability project. 

We thank the three European companies  who came to speak about their sustainability efforts and smart mobility initiatives; Alstom,  BMW Group and Pirelli. We are also grateful to Mr Francesco Mancini (associate dean, NUS, LKY School of Public Policy) who joined us and moderated the session. Special thanks also goes out to the kind support of EU Ambassador to Singapore, Ms Barbara Plinkert who gave a rousing speech prior to the presentations.
