A Letter To Our Trans and Gender Diverse Communities In Response to COVID-19

Dear colleagues, friends and partners,

We are writing to you in the midst of a global pandemic that is evolving rapidly by the hour. The Asia Pacific Transgender Network (APTN) has been closely monitoring the fast-evolving developments of COVID-19 and thinking about how it is affecting the lives of the communities and the critical work that you do. Following the global health guidance from the World Health Organisation (WHO), APTN is taking prudent steps to protect the well-being of our partners, our staff, and the communities in which we are located while continuing our work. Please find our letter to the trans and gender diverse communities in response to COVID-19 at this link.

Understanding community needs: As a community-led organisation, we understand that COVID-19 may require shifts in strategy, reprioritisation, and adjustments as unforeseen impacts are evident now on individuals, organisations, and staff. We remain adaptable at this time and stand ready to find flexibility in our programme implementations to help our communities respond to these challenges wherever possible given that the impact and effects of COVID-19 are likely to intensify/increase. We have created this survey with the aim to gather data about the changes trans and gender diverse communities and organisations are undergoing, the challenges you are facing, and the decisions you are having to make in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. We ask you to take a moment to help us understand and document COVID-19’s impact on trans and gender diverse communities by 3 April 2020.

Do the Community Needs Survey

COVID-19 related resources: The team at APTN has put together a list of resources on official COVID-19 information, basic survival resources for community, medical/mental health, and quarantine entertainment that might be useful at this time. We have also created a listserv to share relevant resources via email. This collaborative list is a document that is work-in-progress: please reach out to us at hello@weareaptn.org for questions, or to share resources via the form here to support trans and gender diverse communities through this difficult time. We will update this list periodically.
