The 100 Days of Prayer is an initiative by our World Church which usually finishes at the end of the General Conference Session, which was due to be held this year, ending July 4. Because of covid-19 the GC Session has been postponed, but the 100 Days of Prayer will still happen.

And it begins today, 27th March.

The Irish Mission Prayer Ministries Sponsor, Pastor Lorance Johnson, is organising an online prayer meet up each Thursday evening at 7.30pm, throughout the course of the 100 Days of Prayer.

We are also inviting the entire Irish Mission family to participate in united prayer at 7.30am, 12.30pm and 7.30pm each day - "Evening and morning, and at noon, I will pray and cry aloud; and he shall hear my voice." (Psalm 55:17)

You can also receive daily prayer pointers from the World Church by going to the dedication webpage https://www.revivalandreformation.org/100days and signing up for the Daily Prayer Focus.

You can also visit the Irish Mission website for the latest information about what's happening across the Irish Mission for the 100 Days of Prayer.

People who have lost employment

The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP) has announced a new COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment.

This new payment will be available to all employees and the self-employed who have lost employment due to a downturn in economic activity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The payment has a simple one–page application form and will be paid for a period of 6 weeks at a flat rate payment of €203 per week for jobseekers. It is designed to quickly deliver a social welfare payment to people who are unemployed as a result of the pandemic and give income security during this 6-week period.

You can get the application form on gov.ie (pdf).

If your employer reduces your hours to 3 days or less per week from your normal full-time hours, you can apply for a payment called Short Time Work Support which is a form of Jobseeker’s Benefit.

Find out more about your employment rights during the COVID-19 restrictions.
People who are ill

There are changes to the Illness Benefit and Supplementary Welfare Allowance rules to help prevent the transmission of coronavirus. These changes require legislation which is expected shortly.

If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 or are medically required to self-isolate, you can get enhanced Illness Benefit or Supplementary Welfare Allowance. When the legislation is completed, workers will be entitled to any arrears due from 9 March when the new payment rates begin.

If you are on an employment programme such as Community Employment.

Smile ... it's the weekend.

While shaking hands with the pastor after worship, Mrs. Jones noticed that he had a rather bad cut on his face.

“Why pastor, what happened? How did you cut your face?,” she asked.

“Well, I was thinking about my sermon this morning while I was shaving,” the pastor replied. “I guess I wasn’t concentrating and cut myself in the process.”

“That’s too bad,”  Mrs. Jones replied. “Next time you should concentrate on your shaving and cut your sermon.”

PECANS IN THE CEMETERY

On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts.

“One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me,” said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence.

Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, “One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me…”

He just knew what it was. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along.

“Come here quick,” said the boy, “you won’t believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls!”

The man said, “Beat it kid, can’t you see it’s hard for me to walk.” When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled slowly to the cemetery.

Standing by the fence they heard, “One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me.”

The old man whispered, “Boy, you’ve been tellin’ me the truth. Let’s see if we can see the Lord…?”

Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord.

At last they heard, “One for you, one for me. That’s all. Now let’s go get those nuts by the fence and we’ll be done…”

They say the old man had the lead for a good half-mile before the kid on the bike passed him.
