The Oregon State University Pledge (video)

Oregon State University is committed to ensuring every student reaches their academic goal.

Oregon State University will assure that all undergraduate and graduate Oregon State University students who are on an approved pathway to complete their requirements to graduate at the end of spring term 2020 – and whose graduation is impeded by Oregon State University’s COVID-19 instructional delivery changes – will receive a scholarship to cover the additional tuition needed to complete their remaining credits in a subsequent term. Scholarships will be available for up to 8 credit hours and may be expanded as resources allow.

Jens Odegaard, assistant director of advancement communications for the College of Engineering, is working from his home in Philomath, Oregon. "I'm staying connected with my colleagues through Slack, Zoom, and the occasional phone call. In the mornings, I'm usually working from my kitchen table. In the afternoons, I like to head out to the back porch of my wood shop for some fresh air and a change of scenery."

Punch Through Pandemics

This online course, for both Oregon State students and the public, will be offered starting March 30 and running through the 10 weeks of spring term. The class will include scientific discussions about the effects of stress, practical techniques to reduce stress, and opportunities to provide real-time help for others, like volunteering for the crisis line. Students can pay tuition and earn credit or enroll for free and not earn credit. Members of the public can enroll for free.

INTERNSHIPS, FELLOWSHIPS, & JOBS

Internships

Aprovecho Research Center is seeking a engineering student to join our team as a volunteer intern during the summer of 2020. ARC hosts an internship program each summer to help it gather data for studies in humanitarian engineering that result in peer reviewed publications, and to provide a growth opportunity for participants. This year’s study will investigate how cross ventilation through and targeted ventilation points in a test kitchen decrease personal exposure to PM2.5. Personal exposure to PM2.5 is a leading cause of death worldwide and very disproportionality affects women and children in developing countries. ARC is located on a rural campus 8 miles east of Cottage Grove, Oregon. Room and board will be provided, as well as rides to the grocery store. Contact Dr. Nordica MacCarty, Nordica.maccarty@oregonstate.edu, for more information.
