Life has become uncertain

Bhekisa’s staff are scattered all over the country working from home.

Since March 5, when the first Covid-19 case was announced, we’ve been reporting on nothing else.

It’s coronavirus — and long hours — every day.

This virus has made one thing clearer than ever: the value of good, trustworthy journalism.  And it’s brought us together. Not just our team — the virus has created opportunities for us to work with other media.

We’ve partnered with the data geniuses from Media Hack to create this map that makes #CoronavirusinSA numbers meaningful and easy to understand.

And Newzroom Afrika and Bhekisisa work together on some of the television station’s Covid-19 coverage. You can catch us on The Pulse with Stephen Grootes and Cathy Mohlahlana most weekdays at 5:30pm.

We’ve also been helping eNCA with analysis on coronavirus issues during their live coverage of the arrival of our Wuhan repatriates and President Cyril Ramaphosa’s lockdown announcements

And, Bhekisisa has co-produced two Covid-19 videos with the Eyewitness News multimedia team that explain how to protect yourself from the virus.

We’re providing all of this coverage for free. Yet the production thereof is expensive.

Bhekisisa is a non-profit that relies on donors and contributions from readers to keep us running.

I hope you will consider making a donation, if you’re in a position to do so.

Right now, all our resources are going toward covering this crisis, and your gift will support our work going forward.

Stay safe,

PS: Don’t forget to catch our Joan van Dyk on the Eusebius McKaiser Show on 702 today at 10:30am talking about this story.

We bring you free #Covid19SA coverage that you can trust. Help us keep it that way by making a small donation HERE.
Living with HIV and want to find out what Covid-19 means for you? Our Sethu Mbuli and Dylan Bush break it down for you in this two minute video.
Have you heard that this SA mayor says he’s shipping in a vaccine to treat coronavirus patients?  It doesn’t exist. And there's no science to back up using the skin cancer treatment he's talking about for Covid-19
WHAT WE DID THIS WEEK
How do you keep track of all the gazetted regulations the government has issued for #LockDownSA?  Bhekisisa's impact and engagement officer, Gopolang Makou, has got you covered. She's started a resource page that explains some of these documents. We'll add more summaries this week.
Welcome to our new subscribers. We're honoured to have you on board.
