April 2020 •  Balsam Lake Public Library News
Hello Library Patrons,
Due to Governor Evers “Safer at Home” order the library is now closed until, at least, April 24th (unless superseded by another order). All library events in April are also cancelled or postponed including our annual National Library Week event. We are hoping to reschedule our National Library Week event as soon as we can.  Meanwhile we've been staying busy, continue reading this newsletter to learn about our new website, Quarantine BINGO, and many great resources that you can use while you are stuck at home.
We miss seeing you and can’t wait to reopen. Stay healthy!

- Linda Heimstead, Library Director
- Rebekah Smith, Marketing & Technology Librarian

Our Book Club read planned for our April meeting, will now be discussed May 12th at 2:00. The book is SNOW FLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN by author Lisa See.

This is a 2005 novel set in 19th century China.  In rural Hunan Province, a county in China, Lily and her friend Snow Flower are a laotong pair whose sisterly relationship is far stronger and closer than a husband and a wife's.

The novel begins in 1903, when Lily is 80 years old.  It continues on to tell the story of her life from birth, childhood, marriage and old age.  Types of discussion might  be foot binding, arranged marriages and other women's sufferings.

I'm looking forward to seeing you on May 12th.

- Jeanne Johnson, Assistant Librarian
