Supporting Students’ Science Learning During COVID-19 School Closures
During the COVID-19 crisis, the physical, mental, and emotional well-beings of students, educators, families, and communities are the top priority. Many educators are needing to support safe and equitable home-based science learning. Any efforts to support science learning should not be a virtual attempt to engage in "school as usual." Meaningful science learning can happen with everyday phenomena in our own homes or neighborhoods. Teachers can play a key role in supporting such learning experiences.
To support teachers and educational leaders as families and students pursue science learning, members of the Council of State Science Supervisors (CSSS) have co-developed a suite of free, adaptable resources. Each member of CSSS directs efforts to improve school science and ensure excellence and equity in science education. Resources are currently available in five languages (Arabic, Chuukese, English, Korean and Spanish), with more translations in development. The resources are published under Creative Commons licensing, and we encourage you to customize them for your context.
STEM Teaching Tools is proud to partner with CSSS to share these resources through our network. We encourage you to explore and share these resources through yours. We hope all is well with you and your loved ones. Thank you for all that you are doing to support students, families, and educators at this time. Take good care.
