Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission’s Landfill and Education Services Response to COVID-19

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak in Iowa and the issuance of a State of Public Disaster Emergency, the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission is working with its partners to continue to provide assistance with meeting public health needs of Black Hawk County.
 
As the landfill is essential component for the county’s public health, it will continue to remain open per the established operating hours. Housekeeping has been increased per the Center of Disease Control recommendations. The Commission encourages only waste haulers to utilize the facility to reduce exposure potential. Residents are encouraged to contact their communities or contracted hauler to collect any waste destined for the landfill to reduce exposure opportunities. The Commission reminds waste haulers to follow its normal safety procedures when handling solid waste.
 
As of March 18, 2020, all educational and outreach programing conducted by the Waste Trac Education Team is tentatively suspended until April 6, 2020. The Waste Trac office shall be tentatively closed until April 1, 2020. Any inquires shall be directed to Wastetrac.org or call your hauler.
 
As of March 20, 2020, the Commission’s Business Office is closed until further notice and all business will be held via telephone or other electronic methods.
 
As this is a fluid situation, the Commission and its partners will continue to monitor this situation and may take additional action in the coming days and weeks to continue to protect human health and the environment.

Household Hazardous and Electronics Waste Collection Event Canceled

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak in Iowa and the issuance of a State of Public Disaster Emergency, the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission and City of Waterloo cancelled the April 18th Household Hazardous and Electronics Waste Collection Event.

This decision was made to protect the health and well being of the event volunteers and participants, and to prevent the spread of the virus in the community.

Fall 2020 Drop-off Event Scheduled
The next collection event is tentatively scheduled to take place on September 19th in Cedar Falls. Visit the Website or Facebook Event Page for more details as the event approaches.
