Dearly-loved brothers and sisters in Christ,

Greetings from Uganda.

You are always in our hearts, and as often as possible in our conversations with our loving God, that you may find full life and good health under his tender and kind arm.

In Uganda, we have been especially spared cases or deaths, but as a safety measure, the government is tightening on levels of interaction daily. We are literally under lockdown - no worship services, no weddings or funerals unless the congregants shall not exceed 10, limited movements, social distancing everywhere, and the world have really changed for us like millions around the globe.

We especially pray for you during this time (and we have sufficient time to do that), knowing that your region is not spared from the pandemic of Coronavirus. We keep reflecting on how we should, as followers of Christ respond. We know that God has transformative lessons for us at all times, even in this.

We also know from history that even in times of crisis Christianity took root. For example, in 165 and 251 AD, devastating epidemics swept through the Roman Empire (smallpox and measles) and produced massive mortality rates but in these times of crisis, Christianity became the dominant faith. Guiding our prayer from history during this difficult time are thus, three lessons:

1) Christianity offered a much more satisfactory account of why these terrible times had fallen upon humanity and it projected a hopeful eternal future. We must account for the Fall and the effects of sin (Rom. 8:18ff)

2) Christian values of love and charity have, from the beginning, been translated into norms of social service and community solidarity. When disaster struck, the Christians were better able to cope, and this resulted in higher rates of survival among Christians. (In the aftermath of each epidemic, Christians made a larger percentage of the population)

3) Pagans (unbelievers) joined the Christian social networks due to their superior survival rate and got converted to Christianity.

So in times of crisis that we may need to pause, reflect and re-evaluate our role in the higher purposes of God, above the crushing economies or social uncertainities.

To this end, we pray that God may give you comfort as you continually trust him for each passing day. We believe in the sovereignty of God, that what the enemy could mean for evil in all that is going on, God can turn around for the good of his people.

Thus we do not cease to imagine how a crisis such as this can also be a great opportunity for the gospel, revival and for the making of disciples through a global wake up call. We are making the most out of every opportunity (Eph. 5:15)

We have attached some news update regarding the ministry we joyfully share, so that you may know how to keep pace with us in what is happening as we continually serve together. We are ever grateful for your support.
