Pastor’s Notes for March 28, 2020

Mercy Groups

In light of the most recent COVID-19 news that 37% of the cases in Placer country are between the ages of 18–49 years, we are working hard to expand the mercy care groups to include everyone in the congregation. Please watch for emails on this from Deaconess Pamela

Offering on Sunday

You will be getting a letter from the congregational leadership about this in the next couple days, but I wanted to make a point of this in preparation for tomorrow. Please consider setting up online giving with VANCO by CLICKING HERE. You are also welcome to mail your offerings to: Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4701 Grove St., Rocklin, CA 95677. You may also contact Richard Schulz if you have any questions.

Preparation for Sunday

Here is the information about Sunday’s online service, fellowship, and bible class:

  • Service of the Word at 9:00 a.m. NOTE THE TIME CHANGE
  • Fellowship on Zoom beginning after church, until the beginning of Bible class
  • Zoom Bible class at 10:00 a.m. NOTE THE TIME

I will send out the links to these things later today. But please note the time change.

And don’t forget, you can watch these services at any time either on our church’s YouTube Channel, or by finding them on our web site. Explore!

Portals of Prayer?

We are working on figuring out how to get both Portals of Prayer and Holy Cross at Prayer out to people. Stay tuned for more information on that.

In the meantime, you may CLICK HERE to find Portals of Prayer online. You can buy it in Kindle or iBooks format, and you can also see the daily prayer online. I know it’s not the same as having a book, but it is a start.

SATURDAY (March 28, 2020)

In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel Sentence

“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”” (John 9:5)

Reading “Jesus heard that they had cast [the man] out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?” Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.” He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him. Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.” (John 9:35–41)

Meditation

Jesus continues to heal the blind man. Yes, his sight is restored, and now Jesus returns to give him something more. Something even better. He comes to give him eternal life. Faith is given and received and the blind man’s eyes are opened physically and spiritually. He is restored in body and soul. God comes to heal us too. As His body and blood touch our lips, we are strengthened and preserved in body and soul.

Silence

Prayer for Holy Cross Member

O Lord, in Holy Baptism you put your Name upon Marietta. Bless her now with the forgiveness of sins and a firm trust in you. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Week (from Sunday)

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, Your mercies are new every morning; and though we deserve only punishment, You receive us as Your children and provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant that we may heartily acknowledge Your merciful goodness, give thanks for all Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Lord’s Prayer

PS DON’T FORGET THE TIME CHANGE FOR THE SERVICE ON SUNDAY
