How to measure social distancing
All around the world and especially on social media, folk are coming up with genius and often comedic ways to cope with the  present quarantine. It's been a most interesting period with unprecedented ramifications. Many people are discovering just how unsustainable their lifestyles and communities are in reality. What this may translate into, once normality is achieved, is anyone's guess, but changes are certain. When lock-down commenced in New Zealand/Aotearoa, our community bubble comprised six persons: Ray and Enzo as tenants, Lautaro and Mathew as volunteers, plus Peter & Pete.

" I feel so lucky to be on lock-down at Autumn Farm with good friends, food and beautiful scenery. Living in the present with Aloha in my heart". Mathew Potts.

" When I chose to live at Autumn Farm I never expected global change was going to affect my daily routine at all. I wish everyone could experience it, framed by the beauty of trees, gardens, birds and benign weather". Lautaro Correa.

Aside from obtaining provisions from the local Fresh Choice and our weekly deliveries of vegies from Ben & Shane's organic market garden, we had everything we needed to survive the four week lock-down period. Being Autumn the orchard was full of apples, quince, citrus and avocados. Home kill meats were in the freezer along with macadamias, walnuts, frozen soups and assorted meals. The local raw milk supplier stayed open. Plus the weather has been kind and even the swimming pool is still being used. Our regular routine of work in the mornings continues and many garden projects are getting done. Contrary to expectations we are not at each others throats or feuding in any way. We are a happy and healthy little group. Rummykub is being played during lazy afternoons, drinkies with the neighbours continue - albeit separated by a hedge or fence - and quiet evenings beside a roaring fire after a delicious meal together end with a shared bath before bed. Really, life has gone on as before in our particular bubble.

The town is eerily silent and the tourist economy in Golden Bay is dead for the present. We had to cancel our Easter House Party along with many reservations for late March and April. Winter is usually quiet here in any case but we are looking forward to receiving visitors again as soon as it's  possible. Our next planned event is hosting the Faerie Gathering over Labour Weekend in October and feel confident this will go ahead. Finally, we hope everything is going well for you all and send you Best Wishes from us here at Autumn Farm.
