Photograph captured by Chad Cocking, Tanda Tula, message by the TPNR.
Hi Subscribers,
Our teams may be on lockdown now but we are still able to bring you some good news stories about what has been happening in the Timbavati this past month.

Remember, your visit to the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve gives back in more ways than one:

1. You indirectly help fund the running of the reserve.
2. You indirectly give back to the rural communities through
The Timbavati Foundation.
3. You indirectly assist in the protection of wildlife by supporting the reserves conservation and security services.
4. You indirectly secure over 1000 jobs within the reserve.

Don't cancel your trip, rather postpone for a later date.

Remember to tell your friends & family to subscribe to our Timbavati Telegraph by simply going onto our new and improved website at www.timbavati.co.za and find our News tab and sign up!
CONSERVATION NEWS
Re-collaring of 3 Giants in the APNR with Elephants Alive

An experience of a lifetime for our two young students! Elephants Alive in action re-collaring three elephants which are part of an on-going research project within the APNR. A very successful operation, well done to all those who were involved!
Students tackle invasive alien plant species
One of our students, Riegard, treating some Opuntia stricta (Prickly pear). By treating this invasive alien species early, we eliminate the likelihood of it flowering and spreading further into our beautiful reserve.

Read more about this specific problem plant species here.

Amazing sighting at Lornay airstrip
How is this for luck! Our students were returning back to HQ after a long day out in the field, to be spoilt with a sighting of two young sub-adult male cheetahs near Lornay airstrip. Not a regular sighting but a very special one indeed.

OPERATION NEWS
Malaria Prevention - Spraying
During the month, the team begun the treatment of mosquitoes in and around the Timbavati lodges and camps. This programme is part of the malaria prevention within our area. Together with the Department of Health, the Timbavati aims to maintain its low risk status of Malaria by undertaking effective and efficient treatments throughout the year.
Avoca Gate Upgrades
The historically known 'Avoca Black Gate' has now formally been renamed Dzonga gate, this is after a decision was taken by the reserve management to upgrade the main Avoca Gate, which is situated 100m off of the Orpen tar road. Dzonga means "South" or "Southern" in the local Tsonga language.  Avoca Gate, currently manned by ProTrack, has been identified as high risk gate. Over the next few months, the gate will be upgraded with new accommodation for gate guards and their canines, full CCTV camera systems, which will be linked to the central control room based at the headquarters and employment of new complement of staff.
Creation of erosion structure bricks
The erosion team is starting to prepare for the busy winter months ahead, as they tackle some of the reserves eroded areas. Why do erosion work in winter? The answer is simple, there is no rain to disturb or disrupt the construction process or damage fragile foundations.
COMMUNITY NEWS
Environmental School Programme
Term one has gone by in the blink of an eye, the Environmental School has been extremely busy and productive, inspiring young people to look after their environment and use its sustainability. There has been nothing but excellent feedback from our school headmasters, so we look forward to the next term to carry on with the good work.

Here are some of our highlights during March in the form of photographs! Be sure to keep a lookout for the Foundation's Newsletter being released within the next few days!
Thank you to our Facilitators Karen Monareng and Bongani Ngwenya for the wonderful photographs!
