Our Plan for Sheltering in Place
|
|
Long Distance Learning:
With schools closed, we know that many people are stepping into the role of teacher for the next few weeks. Our hope with creating digital lesson plans and activities is that our students and community will be able to stay connected with the gardens, and to lighten the load for people who taking on these educator roles. Starting next Monday we will provide lessons once a week with activities with a focus on Nature in Your Neighborhood. The first lessons will be geared towards Kindergarten and 1st grade students – who would have been the next groups in the garden – and later lessons for 4th and 5th graders. Activities will be structured in varying formats, and will be available on our website, social media platforms, and in our newsletters. We will also share Crafts and Recipes that can be done at home! If you have any questions, please contact us at info@communitygrows.org.

Koshland and Covid-19:
At this time, following the shelter in place order, SF Rec and Park discourages us from visiting community gardens. We know that for some of you, the garden may be part of your essential functions. If you do choose to visit the garden, please take every precaution possible to protect yourself and other members of the community - read more about guidelines and info here...

BEETS Virtually Explore Connection Between Climate Change, COVID-19, and Hope
After taking time earlier in the week to explore articles and videos like Rebecca Solnit's Extraordinary Achievements of Ordinary People and A Message from the Future with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, members of the BEETs Leadership Crew facilitated a virtual discussion focused on the connection between climate change, COVID-19, and hope. Although we can't check up on the peas and carrots we planted last month, the BEETs are staying busy during the month of April through learning about the Green New Deal, and envisioning what a hopeful, climate-resilient future could look like for all of us.
