It’s National Frog Month and stepping outside, you can hear the peepers, a sound that characterizes spring in Vermont. Hearing the peepers this year is particularly notable for two reasons: we are home to hear the peepers and these natural notes remind us of all that goes on despite our human focus on pandemics and associated concerns.
We hope that you and your families are well, finding time to enjoy the peepers and other signs of spring. We also want our library community to know that we strive to meet the balance between library service and community safety. Following the guidelines in Governor Scott’s order of March 24 and subsequent updates, the library will remain closed through the end of April. Unfortunately, this means we will not be resuming circulation of materials on Thursday, April 2 as we had originally planned.
In the meantime, please refer to our website for the latest online resources available through our Virtual Library.
The Virtual Library gives us an opportunity to try out some new programs and ideas. A few to note are the Libby book review sessions, highlighting “new-to-you” titles, virtual coding club, and the homegrown gardening guide, offering local tips and resources. We’re taking our book groups online. There are more details below, including how to get started with Zoom, the app we will be using for our virtual meetups. Stay tuned for other offerings, including an Ed Emberley-style drawing sessions!

Calling All Green Thumbs!

We know what good medicine gardening, and the food and beauty it yields, is for us, and we are itching to get started. Even though the Seed Library at Charlotte Library will not be distributing heirloom seeds this year, we are gearing up now to offer stronger than ever Gardener Support via the Charlotte Library website.
We are excited to offer a new program called Seedlings to Share. Seedlings to Share asks those who can, to plant a few (or a lot of!) extra seeds in their sunny windows or under grow lights now, in order to share the resulting eager seedlings with the community in 8-10 weeks when they are ready to go into the ground. Details will be coming soon via Front Porch Forum and the Library website on how to offer or request specific edibles. We hope this program will encourage everyone who wants to, to grow at least some of their own food, and help others do the same.
Soak in the sunshine, and feel your heart expand!

Connecting with the Library and Loved Ones Online

The Library is using Zoom for our virtual book clubs and other meetings. You can also join select board and other town meetings on Zoom. Zoom is a free app that can be downloaded on to your laptop, smartphone or tablet. I recommend downloading Zoom ahead of time and even practicing using it. You can also use it to videochat with friends and family.

Help! Webpages are taking forever to load!

Have you ever cleared your web browsers cache? Clearing the cache can often speed up your web browser. This process will erase your history and sign you out of accounts you are logged in to. Make sure to bookmark any important pages and save your passwords in a safe place before starting. PCMag provides instruction for clearing the cache in different browsers including mobile devices. Give it a try. Another culprit might be your Wi-Fi. Take a look at Techboomers.com's article 4 Reasons Your Wi-Fi is Slower Than It Should Be for some answers.
