my Inner Inmate says don't worry be happy or don't worry be crappy...either way don't worry

Hello <<First Name>>

If it is available to you, scan the body, noticing areas of tightness, tension, pressure...soften these areas if that feels right. Thank You & thank yourself.

And feel free to put this email down and keep practicing…come back to the newsletter later.

We usually live in a constant state of scatteredness - we are everywhere but here and going nowhere fast. Perhaps, now is the time to pause and be in perpetual harmony with what is...and to go from wandering around in stillness to stillness in our wandering around.

    I hope you are staying safe and sane thru this constantly changing pandemic pandemonium. Self-isolating may be foreign to you, but it can be quite productive. There were many things I learned from my razor wire retreat a few years ago. The most notable was learning to do time by doing now. Paradoxically, I found the best way to get thru a period of confinement, voluntary or involuntary, is to live moment to moment or at least one day at a time. This is true whether it be for a day or two or a year or two! We don’t know how long our current situation will last (and neither do the experts). But taking care of and taking care in every moment will keep us sane and as calm as possible. In the end, how we do time matters more than how long we do time.
    As all our in-person classes have been canceled, I and many of our local teachers are offering online sessions. From daily & weekly drop-in sessions to 8 week MBSR and MSC courses, you will have many opportunities to practice together. For the time being, my newsletter will have a different format. I will keep you updated by listing the classes and other events that I am aware of until something else is called for. I will be keeping blogging to a minimum to not add to the infodemic of news, updates and rumors that you can find elsewhere, indeed in so many elsewheres!
      I also recognize that there are many other options for online classes and trainings that are likely to grow in numbers, so I am limiting the listing to the classes offered by local teachers and groups. We are here to support you through these uncertain and unsettling times. We appreciate your support. Thank you.

    Finally, I am hoping once this experience is over that we come together to create a world that is more humane, effective, resilient and sustainable.
 And that we have the courage, commitment, and confidence to envision a radically different approach to our lives grounded in mindfulness, compassion, healing, and transformation.  Let it begin now, in this moment, in our physically, but not socially isolated spaces, for this moment is the only moment that we ever have even...and after all, there are no practical means to escape from our current imprisonment or for that matter, the present moment. Take good care, stay in touch.

A few poems and quotes
"This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.
Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light.
If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning"
John O'Donohue

"Have hope, but let it be a wise hope. Wise hope is born of radical uncertainty, rooted in the unknown and the unknowable. Wise hope requires that we open ourselves to what we do not know, what we cannot know; that we open ourselves to being surprised, perpetually surprised.

But let’s begin by saying what hope is not: hope is not the belief that everything will turn out well. People die. Populations die out. Civilizations die. Planets die. Stars die...the boat is going to sink!"

Joan Halifax

"Since drowning is inevitable never trust the boat...but do trust the River"
Kailash Vajpeyi

"Now we will count to twelve
and we will all keep still
for once on the face of the earth,
let’s not speak in any language;
let’s stop for a second,
and not move our arms so much.

It would be an exotic moment
without rush, without engines;
we would all be together
in a sudden strangeness.

Fishermen in the cold sea
would not harm whales
and the man gathering salt
would not look at his hurt hands.

Those who prepare green wars,
wars with gas, wars with fire,
victories with no survivors,
would put on clean clothes
and walk about with their brothers
in the shade, doing nothing.

What I want should not be confused
with total inactivity.
Life is what it is about;
I want no truck with death.

If we were not so single-minded
about keeping our lives moving,
and for once could do nothing,
perhaps a huge silence
might interrupt this sadness
of never understanding ourselves
and of threatening ourselves with death.

Perhaps the earth can teach us
as when everything seems dead
and later proves to be alive.

Now I’ll count up to twelve
and you keep quiet and I will go.
