Greetings to you all from your Saltaire History Club team. We hope you are in good health and bearing up under the Covid-19 restrictions.

You’ll not be surprised to find that the Club is making adjustments to its programme and this mailing briefs you on our plans between now and July.

TWO JOURNEYS
We’re sorry to tell you that our World Heritage Day event at Salts Mill has been cancelled – for the obvious reasons.

HOWEVER, the Club and Salts Mill will be making a big effort to stage it later in the year. Watch this space!

If you have already purchased tickets and have any queries regarding refunds please contact Salts Mill by email (the Mill itself is closed): sue.roe@saltsmillbooks.co.uk
4 JUNE 2020 - CLUB QUARTERLY MEETING AND AGM
We’re due to meet for our quarterly meeting (and AGM) on 4 June.

Our speaker will be the noted local historian Derek Barker who’ll be telling us about a remarkable piece of research, the Northcliffe Heritage Project. Remarkable because it involves many people, has many strands – history, geology, ecology – and has been pursued over a number of years.

We’re hoping to go ahead with the meeting (in a larger room if possible) – but of course we’ll be guided by the latest government advice on Covid-19. Please put the date in your diary and we’ll let you know what’s what towards the end of May.
5 AND 12 JULY SUMMER WALKS - MANNINGHAM MILLS AND THE BRADFORD TRADESMEN’S HOMES
As you probably know, the Club is organising two short walking tours of Manningham on 5 and 12 July. They’ll each include Lister's Mill, once the largest silk factory in the world, and the Bradford Tradesmen’s Homes, a product of Salt philanthropy and perhaps the most delightful almshouses in Britain.
We’re hoping to go ahead with the walks but of course will be guided by the latest government advice on Covid-19. We’ll let everyone know what’s what towards the end of June.

Because of the uncertainty, we’re abandoning our plan which was only to sell tickets at the Club’s quarterly meetings. Instead, you can reserve places by emailing Club chair Les at lesbrook@saltairevillage.info.No need to send payment: we’ll sort that out later. If you signed up at the last Club meeting, no problem. Your reservation stands.

A reminder of the details:
Dates: Sunday 5 and Sunday 12 July 2020 Time: 14.30 to 16.30
Your guides: Peter Nias and Mollie Somerville
Start and finish point: the corner of Patent Street and Lilycroft Rd
Charge: £5.00 pp. The charge covers a donation to the Homes and a contribution to Club costs.

Best wishes
