Practicum Update from NCCAP

NCCAP stands in solidarity with all our MEPAP Instructors as we remain mindful of the health and safety of our students during the challenging COVID-19 requirements applicable to LTC communities and work settings.

Attached is a 2-page list of resources [see button below] NCCAP has created to assist in the delivery of in-room activity programming. We ask you to share this with your students and networks.

PRACTICUM REQUIREMENTS

Current COVID-19 requirements restricting access to LTC communities has led some healthcare professional bodies to suspend Practicums as a result of these restrictions.

Similarly, NCCAP advises Instructors to suspend MEPAP Practicums as necessary and for those who are not able to access a LTC community, such as volunteers.

MEPAP students who are employed in a LTC setting may be able to continue with their required Practicum while also complying with applicable health and safety requirements.

However, MEPAP students who are undertaking the Practicum as a volunteer should not continue with the Practicum while any COVID-19 health and safety requirements are in effect.

Thus, it is recommended that any MEPAP student not able to continue or complete the required Practicum during COVID-19 restrictions be given an extension of time for completion.

At the same time, NCCAP would like to emphasize that the Practicum remains a formal requirement for completing MEPAP 1 and/or 2.

Please note that NCCAP requires that no MEPAP Certificates of Completion be issued unless and until all Practicum requirements have been met by the student.

Activity Directors Network was founded in 1996 on the idea that we could help create elderly care that dramatically improved the lives of those we all serve. Activity Directors are the key to creating environments that we ourselves would be excited to live in. We envision facilities that feel like homes, not institutions. Facilities that celebrate our resident’s individuality and allows them to live with dignity, purpose and joy. We believe providing the best education available, with the most talented teachers we can find, is the way to make an impact. Each and every single one of you are the revolution that is changing everything. Thanks for being a part of The Network.
