Community Services COVID-19 Update #5

This is the fifth COVID-19 update from WACOSS. We are committed to providing the WA community services sector with crucial information and high level resources as necessary, until the pandemic subsides.

Content from these updates will be posted on the Community Services Resource page on the WACOSS website.

FUNDING AND CONTRACTING SERVICES UPDATE

Late yesterday afternoon, the Department of Finance Funding and Contracting Services released a Special Edition Bulletin to the sector. The bulletin touches on:

• Funding certainty for community services during COVID-19
• Reducing the burden on the not-for-profit sector
• Working in Partnership - COVID-19
• Personal protective equipment for community services staff
• Three month notice period for termination of service agreements

FaCS are immediately ceasing service reviews and all non-essential contractual compliance requirements and signalling that service agreements that expire on 30 June 2020 should be extended as soon as possible, and before 31 March 2020.

WACOSS will be working closely with our members, peaks, and state government to request extensions beyond 30 June 2020 to manage our responses to COVID-19.

ADVOCACY AND MEDIA COVERAGE

Last night in Federal Parliament, both stimulus packages passed, and it was extremely pleasing to see that the supplement will be extended to include students on Youth Allowance, Abstudy and Austudy. ACOSS released their position on this earlier today, and that they will continue advocating for more support for people who remain uncovered by income support if they have no paid employment, including asylum seekers.
