Update from the Shire President
COVID-19 - 23 MARCH 2020
To all residents in the Shire of Dumbleyung
The COVID-19 pandemic (Coronavirus) is rapidly changing life as we know it in many ways. As a Shire we are all in this together and our help and support of each other is what has made our Country towns strong and resilient and is what will help us adapt and get through this.
Many changes have happened over the weekend and changes will continue to happen; from the WA border closing as of Tuesday to all non-essential services being temporarily closed as of noon Monday (today). Not only will sports be impacted but our food outlets and pubs, libraries, places of worship, weddings, funerals and all non-essential gatherings are to cease in order to slow the spread of this terrible virus. Take away venues and bottle shops are able to continue trading as will accommodation in hotels. These measures will be assessed and reviewed in 1 months time, with the outlook at this stage proposed to be 6 months of social distancing, with the required 4sqM per person spacing.
Please be mindful that this does not only impact yourself, but those around you who may have compromised health. Respect and care for each other has never been more important than right now. Stay up to date with changes by following the links below.
We are a wonderful community and this is evidenced by volunteer groups activating in both Dumbleyung and Kukerin working towards providing help for those in genuine need of assistance during this pandemic. If you need to self-isolate or quarantine, the Dumbleyung and Kukerin General Stores can take your grocery order by phone or email and pack your order for collection. Please contact the CRC on 9863 4829 or email: dumbleyungcrc@gmail.com and they will contact the volunteer group in Dumbleyung or Kukerin to help you with shopping and pharmaceuticals with the aim to deliver it to your door. These are fantastic initiatives and we are so thankful to have these community minded people in our Shire.
As a Shire, we are working on measures to reduce the spread of the virus while continuing to provide services to our community. Members of the public are encouraged to:
- Use EFT rather than cash to make payment of accounts
- Email customer service requests instead of coming into the office
The health and safety of our staff, emergency service volunteers, local business owners and community members is a priority. Slowing the spread of the COVID 19 is essential for our health system and our community to cope in the coming months.
