Update Re: COVID-19

The Board met by conference call on Saturday and discussed the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on the opening and operation of the golf course.
As the crisis continues to evolve and escalate on a daily basis, it is very difficult to make any definitive decisions regarding the upcoming season.  We do know that the public safety authorities and Golf Canada’s guidance is to remain closed at this time. Our number one priority must be the safety, health and well-being of our employees, guests, members and our community.
What we have decided on an interim basis is as follows:
  1. We will not open until there is guidance from the authorities that it is OK to do so.
  2. Payment of membership fees will be deferred at least until April 30th. This includes the 2nd half of payment for those that paid half in the fall.
  3. We will continue to work with Blue Jay Irrigation to complete the remaining work on the new irrigation system with a target of completion by the end of April (this assumes government policies allow this work to be completed).
  4. Jim Myerscough, our Greens Superintendent, will begin work as necessary in April to prepare the course for opening and to keep the course in playable condition. With all the great effort that has gone into our new irrigation system, we are anticipating that the course will be better than ever. The Board would like to thank all those who have contributed to this new and important infrastructure for the Club.
  5. Mike Gascho,, our Director of Golf Course Operations, will begin work in April to consider Club procedures and logistics to enable play to resume when it is determined to be prudent to do so. This will include looking at scenarios that address possible opening dates and the conditions under which play can resume (eg. using online mechanisms to book and pay for tee times, lengthening the time between starting times, reducing touch points around the course, etc.)
Golf is a sport that promotes good health and provides wide open spaces and fresh air for participants. It is unique in that, with the proper care, it can be played while still adhering to social distancing guidelines.  We are hopeful that we can find ways to enable you to enjoy our great course while maintaining your health and the health of our staff and other guests.
We will provide additional updates in the coming weeks as this situation unfolds.
Please contact Mike Gascho (mike@sturgeonpointgolf.com) if you have any questions.
Thank you and stay safe!
