National Crime Victims' Rights Week will be commemorated April 19 - 25, 2020. This week raises awareness of victims' rights and is acknowledged by victims services agencies and service providers across the nation.
The Crime Victims and Witness Rights Act was enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia in 1995. Among many other important rights, the Act provides that victims should have the right to file for compensation for expenses related to the crime.
The Virginia Victims Fund, officially the Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund, was created in 1977 and fulfills this moral duty of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
