Coronavirus: Careers resources to send to parents and students

1. Careers Action Plan for students

We have created a Careers Action Plan for you to send to students and parents. Click here to download it. We will be sending it directly to students and parents on our mailing lists.

This email will go out to students and parents on Thursday so please encourage parents to sign up using this link: http://eepurl.com/daPZLT

2. In case you missed it: Free Gatsby Guides

We have made the electronic editions of our Gatsby Subject Guides available free of charge. Click here to download your chosen subject(s).

3. Weekly Career Zone Spotlight emails

Earlier in the year we started sending out a series of newsletters shining a spotlight on career paths within different industries. So far we have sent out the Energy & Utilities newsletter which you can view here.

We are upgrading these to include worksheets for students to complete. We will be sending out the remaining emails in the series weekly from next week (with a break for the Easter holidays). We will send these to students and parents as well.

4. Coming soon

An invitation to help create careers videos

We would like to make a series of short subject-based videos made by teachers. Next week, we will contact you with more details and information about how you can take part.

Careers leaders, feel free to talk to your teaching staff about this now. Videos can be made at home and we will provide a detailed specification so teachers know what to do. We would like to have the videos ready for the new term.

Parents ebook

We have been working on a new ebook, especially for parents, linking curriculum learning to careers. We will publish the full edition next year but we are rushing a taster version into production for parents to use during the school/college closures. We hope this will be ready for the new term.

5. Tips and tools

School/college careers advisors can still deliver careers support while students are at home:

Gatsby Benchmark 8: Schedule individual calls

School closures are a great time to arrange one-to-one sessions with students to help you meet Gatsby Benchmark 8 (personal guidance). You can arrange a phone call, do a Google Hangout or a Skype or Zoom call.

Run a drop-in session

You could run a careers drop-in session on Zoom. On Zoom, you can create a meeting link and share it with your students - anyone with the link can drop in at any time. Your school/college may have alternative software they can set you up on, or they may pay for a Zoom account if you ask. Alternatively, there is a free version which allows calls up to 40 mins long.

If you think this email might be helpful to someone else, please forward it on. If you have any questions or need any help, please email us at team@successatschool.org.

Thanks
