Flick of the Week

Staff Pick: Kelly McLaughlin

2006 · 111 min · PG · CC
Available on Amazon Prime

A period drama depicting the lives of a community of Norwegian and German immigrants arriving in Minnesota in the 1920s. The film received a critic score of 85% and audience score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Here's how it works:
  1. Click here to register for the Flick of the Week ($10)
  2. You'll receive an email with our suggested Flick of the Week, with a link to where you can find the film online. This may require a subscription to a service such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Kanopy or others. We know many will be investing in these services over the coming month, and we will do our best to select films available on multiple platforms and rotate through platforms each week. This week's film can be found on Amazon Prime.
  3. You'll be invited to a private Facebook group, where you can discuss the film with OGT's staff and your fellow OGT supporters.
  4. We'll host a Zoom conversation about the film so you can ask questions and share your opinions.
Every week while we are closed, we will have a new recommendation to share with you and a new discussion group you can join. Registration will be $10 each week you wish to receive our Flick of the Week recommendation.

Your registration fee helps us cover the tremendous loss of income we are experiencing while remaining closed, so that we can continue to pay our staff, cover expenses we can't cut, and ensure we're ready to go as soon as we are able to re-open.

Our popular Storytime on Screen program is designed for kids from birth to age 5, and we're bringing it to you virtually while we are closed. Our selections while doing this programming virtually are good for pre-school to early elementary school aged children.

The theme this week is "Animals Everywhere," and we're bringing you online storytelling, a short film, and a craft! Given all the rain in the forecast this week, the selections are a bit longer than our usual Storytime, with three books and a 24 minute short film.

Here's how it works:
  1. Click here to register. Registration is free, but we suggest a donation of $5 per family to support this program.
  2. Once you register, you'll receive an email with a YouTube playlist and instructions on how to complete the craft.
  3. We'd love for you to take photo or video of the end result of your craft. Please tag Old Greenbelt Theatre on social media if you share with friends, or you can send them to kelly@greenbelttheatre.org!
Registration is FREE! But you can make an optional donation to help support our operations to continue programming like this!

Thank you for supporting
the Old Greenbelt Theatre!

Thank you for being a valued supporter of our nonprofit arthouse cinema. We continue to look into ways to deliver our quality programming to bring you light and comfort during these difficult times. We're grateful for everyone who is supporting OGT to help us remain a valued community resource.

If you'd like to do more, here are some ways you can help OGT out:

  1. Renew your membership now. Memberships always provide you with 12 months of moviegoing magic. Your renewal today extends your current membership by 12 months, and helps us to weather this storm.
  2. Make a donation to cover the trips you would normally make to the movies. We set up a special page where you can donate the amount you would be spending on a trip to the movies; just a ticket, ticket and concessions, date night, or family night. You can also sign up to donate the cost of a ticket each week.
  3. Participate in our online programming! We're getting creative to find ways that we can see you at the movies online.
Thank you to everyone who has already given so generously. We're grateful to all of you and hope to see you again soon at the movies!
