Dear Residents,

This morning I had a conference call meeting with my Emergency Management Team, some of our department heads and outside community organizations. Our Health Department provided an update that there are 327 cases in Connecticut, and eight in Fairfield. Fairfield County has the highest number of cases and we expect numbers to grow in the coming days. The Town of Fairfield is doing all that we can to flatten the curve but we can't do it without cooperation from our residents by following physical social distancing, washing hands frequently and STAYING HOME unless you need food or medical supplies.
We know that these are challenging times for many residents who feel lonely and isolated. I would like to let our residents know about our "Friendly Caller" program. Fairfield Public Health Nurses, Library Staff and CERT Volunteers will make calls to those who want a friendly, informal chat, to let them know someone is thinking of them and to make sure they have everything they need and know what resources are available. We want to help maintain residents' connection to the community. Social Services together with Operation Hope are conducting meal deliveries, OH’s community kitchen is open M through F for lunch and dinner, and OH’s food pantry is open M-W-F from 10:00 to 12:00 and Th 4:00 to 6:00. They are also collecting groceries (and gift cards to grocery stores to purchase food) for residents who need assistance during this time. Fairfield is lucky to have countless restaurants that have altered their businesses to provide take out, delivery and curbside pick up.

GROCERY STORES
We have met with all of the grocery store managers in town and have spoken with state officials. There is no issue with the food supply and therefore there will not be any shortages. The empty shelves are the result of unnecessary panic buying. Many are offering curbside pick up and deliver. Refer to our website for more information.

- Practice social distancing
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick
- Wash your hands often for 20 seconds with warm soap and water. Hand washing is preferred but if not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Stay home when you are sick
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue immediately away
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects (including your cell phone and computer keyboard) and surfaces using regular household cleaning spray or wipe
- Face masks are recommended for use for only people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others.
