What you can do to help local governments

1. Go to myvote.wi.gov and request an absentee ballot to minimize in-person voting.
2. If you know someone who struggles with technology or does not have internet access... help them to get their absentee ballot mailed to them.
3. If you feel you must vote in-person, bring your own black ball point pen for the ballot and take it with you. Let's ensure voters don't re-use pens and staff don't handle used pens.
4. If you know a large business or manufacturer that has large room sanitizing equipment - ask them to contact their local government and offer to sanitize polling places.
5.  If you have other government business to conduct, CALL AHEAD or go ONLINE.

A Message from the Community Development Department on Core Services:

In an effort to keep our employees and the community safe during the COVID-19 virus crisis, the Village Offices will be closed to the public and our employees either are currently or possibly will be working remotely. While some services may be on hold, we are dedicated to keeping our virtual doors as open as possible. With that, we are providing alternatives to our in-person interactions when we are able. The list below is an evolving list of processes, and more will be added as we all work through this challenging time together.

Building, HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing Inspections are STILL REQUIRED

Inspections in occupied residential or commercial structures are not being done at this time. The Village still requires inspections to be scheduled by calling 920-468-5225. After scheduling the inspection, you will be required to take representative pictures of the items to be inspected. You will then e-mail the photos to the inspector to review and approve.

If the inspector has questions or concerns, the inspector will reach out to you or request additional pictures. If you have a question as to what to take pictures of, you will be transferred to the inspector’s voicemail and they will call you back within 24 hours to advise you.
Outside inspections may be done during “off hours” or times when the construction site has not been occupied for an extended period of time.  The inspector will indicate the conditions necessary to visit the site for the inspections or will require other alternative inspection procedures such as pictures or video call platform (if available).

In summary, communication with the building inspectors through telephone or e-mail regarding the inspections and any necessary follow up actions is critical to avoid costly delays or modifications in order to view necessary elements of required inspections.  As always, the responsibility to communicate is with the permit holder or contractor.

Plan Submittal

Plans are encouraged to be mailed to the Village Offices.  Please communicate to the building inspectors that a plan has been mailed so we know when to expect it.  If plans cannot be mailed and must be dropped off, plan sets and application materials can be dropped off and left within the front vestibule of the Village Offices at 2828 Allouez Avenue.  Please call to ensure the vestibule will be open and to ensure that an inspector is aware of a submittal that is waiting within the vestibule.  As the Village Offices are closed, we will not accept unscheduled “walk-ins”.

Permits

Permits are still being issued but when possible please complete them online and e-mail them for review or for some residential permit applications, the online citizen self-service portal is available through the Village website.  Other permits can be dropped off and left within the front vestibule of the Village Offices at 2828 Allouez Avenue.  Please call to ensure the vestibule will be open and to ensure that an inspector is aware of a submittal that is waiting within the vestibule.  As the Village Offices are closed, we will not accept unscheduled “walk-ins”.

General Housing and Zoning Complaints (Minor)

For the health and safety of the community and Village Employees, complaints and the associated inspections are not being followed up on at this time.  The complaints will be logged and will be completed when it is deemed safe to do so. Please understand that there will be a backlog of such complaints and inspections accumulating during this time, and we will address them in the order they were received.

General Permitting or Plan Review Questions:
For general questions and guidelines relative to plan review and permits, most of the information is available online to view and download.

Request for Development Approvals - Plan Commission

While all public meetings are on hold, we will still be accepting Request for Development Actions for the Plan Commission. We will review these items and add them to agendas as meetings are scheduled in the order in which they are received. Since both electronic and hard copies are required, please e-mail to the Planning Staff member you have been working with and mail in the required number of hard copies. If plans cannot be mailed and must be dropped off, plan sets and application materials can be dropped off and left within the front vestibule of the Village Offices at 2828 Allouez Avenue.  Please call to ensure the vestibule will be open and to ensure that a planner is aware of a submittal that is waiting within the vestibule.  As the Village Offices are closed, we will not accept unscheduled “walk-ins”.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.
