Joy in the Wilderness!

Hey Family!

First, let me assure you that your Sr. Pastor, Pastoral Team and staff are praying for you! We hope that you are safe, healthy, and finding time (because we have a lot more now!) to draw closer to God as we stay at home. And while we’re at home, what if we shift our focus for the rest of Lent and beyond? We all need a little more joy while we're going thru this pandemic wilderness. More joy, more love, more praise. It's bad enough that we're limited in our social interactions. But what we are not limited in is JOY! We can find joy even in the midst of adversity.

“…for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

That being said, let’s find the joy in this wilderness. In the weeks to come, we’ll be posting ways that people are finding joy, things that the Bible tells us about having joy, and our own experiences of joy along the way. And our commitment to you is to be here, as long as we're in this wilderness - week in, week out, bringing joy, unspeakable joy! Are you in? I’ll go first.
One of my joys is sweet 'n salty things - candy, coffee, nuts. I especially love Crunch 'N Munch! Oooo-weee! The combination of sweet caramel popcorn & salty peanuts. I'm smiling just thinking about it. But Crunch ‘N Munch must bring joy to a whole lotta folks because it’s flown off the shelves too! Then I remembered a popcorn tin that a sweet soul had given us when my mother was ill. And guess what – it has caramel popcorn in it. We had a tin of peanuts at the house, too. Put the two together and – JOY!!! Right there, in my own home. Sounds silly, but it sure was good!
So, as you go thru this day and the days to come, look for joy in the simplest of things. Drop us a line if you're inclined. We'd love to hear your stories of joy – the taste of your favorite food, a beautiful sunrise/sunset seen thru your window, joy is all around us! What brings you joy? Email it to: lsettles@sjumckc.org.
