It's 2020, bitches.

Hello.  It's been a minute... and the world is a very different place now!  Much like anyone who is anyone, I've been hunkering down at home for the past few weeks working on some incredibly important business: cleaning and organizing my closet, building Legos, engaging in online shopping sprees, learning how to play DnD, drinking afteroon wine, watching Terrace House, and baking second-rate sourdough.

My rehearsal and performance schedule has been squashed - but hopefully things will get back in order this spring...summer...fall?  Until then, let me remind you to check out How to Dance, my online project from 2018 - it's perfect to keep active at home!  I also have listed a few other PDF Dances on my website for your perusal.  As usual, I will link back to previous quarterly newsletters (now re-labeled!), just in case you're even more bored than usual...which you likely are!

Since we last spoke, I've done a number of little dance things!  In December I showed a new tanz vid.  (Pictured here!)  I also performed a new participatory solo for You Can't Fail at Philly-famous bar Tattooed Mom in January.
Another highlight was participating in the faux Ellsworth Street Pop-Up Dance Festival in a shipping pod with some long-time collaborators.  As usual, see what I've been up to in near-realtime on STBDancing.com!
My work with Dr. Andy Thierauf as dance/perc duo stb x at has continued into our eighth year!  Back in December we produced Slurps'n'Chomps as a collaboration with a crew of percussionists and performed Heaviness/Lightness for Lyons & Tigers at Group Motion's Spiel Uhr.  Online we have a few more recent performances!

We got an excellent write-up in The Dance Journal for in moderation, our latest duet that we showed at Leah Stein's Studio Works Series.

"The final work was of the duo stb x at, made up of Sean Thomas Boyt and Andy Thierauf. Andy assumed his position at the drums and began playing an ominous rumble, while Sean moved with a wave-like dexterity diagonally across the space. As Andy’s drums intensified, Sean fell into a kind of movement vernacular, returning to motifs of a hand reaching out on the ground, a side glance, and torso sloshing. Sean and Andy’s performances sometimes matched in pace and texture, and other times departed from one another to fall into their own rolling groove. The work rumbled to an end after a few minutes, but I felt as though I could have sat and watched the stormy landscape the pair created for hours." - Nicole Bradbury, The Dance Journal (photo and text)

We will also be "performing" at the Barnes Foundation with Orchestra 2001!  The show was *supposed* to be in the fancy fancy foyer of the renowned art museum, but you can see a special online version of the piece we created this Friday night!
I premiered my newest solo, Showa Sean, at the Community Education Center in Philadelphia, and have since traveled it to Brooklyn for Spoke The Hub's Solo Fancy, the Performance Garage for Poetico Dance Collective's Carnaval, and to Iowa City for a "private performance" at the University of Iowa!
Anne-Marie Mulgrew & Dancers Company is gearing up for a spring show and recently filmed a dance video (originally slated to premiere this month at Philadelphia Dance Project's Dance Up Close, butttttt.....) that should be viewable soon!

The Naked Stark is also working on new work - while our Meet The Naked Stark event was postponed, we have plans to break out again later this spring!

Vervet Dance originally planned to Welcome Spring at Awbury Arboretum, but we think it'll be safer to welcome summer instead!  I'll be performing in excerpts of In The Light and Surrender and Support at a later date.  Stay tuned for more information as the current pandemic informs decisions!
In closing, I want to remind everyone that actually reads this far to stay safe and make good decisions that benefit everyone - especially those at fringes!  Stay home and stay safe!
xoxo,
STB
