[Webinar] Blunting the Impact of COVID-19

Dr. Robert L. Murphy, Feinberg

More info → PlanIt Purple
Coronavirus-19 is much more than a viral infection, with a mortality rate at least five times greater than influenza. Reverberations include stressing our health care system to the point of partial collapse, unemployment greater than that seen in the Great Depression, an economic recession bigger than the one in 2008, and a social isolation never before experienced on the scale that is soon to arrive. Dr. Robert L. Murphy will discuss these issues, address how to blunt such impact most effectively, and the price we will have to pay if we don’t. He will also speak about how we might use our experience with coronavirus-19 to better prepare for future global pandemics.

Can’t Touch This: Anthropological Reflections on the Coronavirus Pandemic

Dr. Adia Benton, Anthropology

Earlier this week, Northwestern University cultural and medical anthropologist Adia Benton discussed topics central to the COVID-19 pandemic in a webinar hosted by Northwestern’s Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs. The webinar raised provocative questions related to what is and isn’t known about COVID-19 and its transmission dynamics, as well as the implications of the response to COVID-19 for various forms of governance and our global society as a whole.
