Inside this Issue!

We acknowledge there is a rapidly unfolding public health response to COVID-19 and would like to thank those services and staff who have been working tirelessly to respond, and to prepare for continued response to this virus. We are appreciative of those who are not only trying to support their own family, but who are also there for other individuals and families in our community.

Central Hume PCP has put together a COVID-19 webpage resource providing information on prevention, social connection & mental wellbeing. It has links to local information and information for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It won’t be static as we will review and add as we come across resources.

We hope it will be a beneficial resource to the communities across Central Hume.

Managing your Mental Health while in Self-Isolation or Quarantine

There are a number of ways to support your mental health during periods of self-isolation or quarantine.

  • Remind yourself that this is a temporary period of isolation to slow the spread of the virus.
  •
  • Remember that your effort is helping others in the community avoid contracting the virus.
  • Stay connected with friends, family and colleagues via email, social media, video conferencing or telephone.
  • Connect with others via the Beyond Blue forums thread: Coping during the coronavirus outbreak.
  • Engage in healthy activities that you enjoy and find relaxing.
  • Keep regular sleep routines and eat healthy foods.
  • Try to maintain physical activity.
  • Establish routines as best possible and try to view this period as a new experience that can bring health benefits.
  • For those working from home, try to maintain a healthy balance by allocating specific work hours, taking regular breaks and, if possible, establishing a dedicated work space.
  • Avoid news and social media if you find it distressing.

GRACE UNDER PRESSURE
Wednesday 8 April 7.30pm

By David Williams and Paul Dwyer in collaboration with the Sydney Arts & Health Collective.

Health professionals are with us when we’re born, and they’re with us when we die. They devote their lives to caring for us, but how do we care for them? Can a doctor or nurse give a patient the best possible care if he or she hasn’t slept for days? What if they are also being bullied or sexually harassed at work? What if they complain about having to work excessive hours, but are told to stop whinging and suck it up? How do they cope with the pressure?

Based on hours of in-depth interviews with doctors and nurses about their experiences of training and working in hospitals, Grace Under Pressure is a surprising, intimate, and deeply moving theatre experience that reveals these hidden stories of health professionals in their own words. Ranging from wildly funny to utterly heartbreaking, the stories within Grace Under Pressure will leave no audience member unaffected. Beautifully staged and disarmingly performed, Grace Under Pressure is a truly unique theatre experience.

PLEASE NOTE - Following this performance you are invited to stay and enjoy some nibbles and a complimentary glass of wine, prosecco, beer or soft drink and build your camaraderie with other ‘helping professionals’.
