Dear Basketry Community,

How do we move forward into a world we couldn’t have imagined even a few months ago?  As an individual, I’m trying to face this crisis realistically while staying calm and productive. And that’s our goal at NBO — to steadily put one foot in front of the other, heading into this uncertain future while looking for ways to help our community.

On our website and social media, we are adding links to our NBO YouTube Channel, Click on the "Playlists" tab to find instructional videos, studio visits, and artist interviews. Please check it regularly, as we continue to add content we hope will be useful and inspirational. We are also steadily adding links to the Resources for Inspiration and Business Assistance section on our website.

Many of you are already using #basketryjoinhands on Instagram, posting images of works-in-progress  —  it’s our way of joining hands virtually as we move forward together. By searching the hashtag you’ll be able to connect with many others working alone in their studios.

  • We are in the process of developing Zoom groups focused on teachers who are suddenly facing cancelled workshops. We’re working out the technical details, but if you are in this situation and would like to participate, please email NBO Executive Director Pam Morton.
  • We have extended the deadline for our upcoming Members in Print exhibition to March 29. Our website has complete details on the submission process:  Members in Print    Go here to enter: Members in Print CáFE
  • There is still time to reply to the NBO Constituent survey if you haven’t done that yet. We’ve extended that deadline as well to March 31. Your opinions and feedback are important to NBO!  NBO Constituent Survey

NBO 2013 Conference - Arrowmont

As this crisis hit, NBO was in the midst of planning our 2021 conference and biennial exhibition, Basketry Now. We will move ahead steadily and cautiously. Our conference will be in the Pittsburgh area, but the selection of the specific venue has been delayed by the current situation. We’ll keep you informed as we know more.

I know we are all coping with isolation, missed opportunities, lost income, and concerns about family and friends, especially those in healthcare professions. But step by step and stitch by stitch, we will move forward. NBO plans to do everything we possibly can to support the basketry community. We welcome your thoughts and suggestions.
