A message from Patty Brosmer, President:
These days of uncertainty for our community and businesses are challenging for everyone. Capitol Hill BID stands in support of the entire neighborhood as we take on the important issue of the health and safety of our future together. The Capitol Hill Neighborhood has long proven to be a strong community and so many incredible efforts to support one another have already been successful.
The BID is proceeding with operations as normally as possible to provide our essential services. We remain in frequent contact with DC Department of Public Works (DPW) via conferences calls along with all other DC Business Improvement Districts to collaborate our efforts ensuring we use best practices for the safety of all. In addition to our regular routines, our clean teams have been wiping down trash receptacles, bus shelters, and newspaper boxes with disinfectant on a daily basis. We are also taking advantage of less foot traffic/less rubbish by getting a jump on spring mulching. As new information arises we will keep everyone informed if any further changes to our services occur.
As we continue to provide services, focus on the health and wellbeing of our “Men in Blue” is stronger than ever. Our team member’s safety is extremely important to the work we do in the community and we want to make sure we’re all doing our part to minimize the risk of exposure for everyone. Additional safety and sanitization precautions are being taken while working and schedules may be modified to limit unnecessary contact. All employees have been authorized added sick leave if necessary to protect themselves, their families, and employment.
The businesses in Capitol Hill need our support now more than ever. Continuing to engage with businesses through carry-out, delivery, or gift card purchases are all great ways help in this time of need. The BID has put together a list of resources on our website for residents and businesses in hopes to help our community stay strong and equip you with important information. Barracks Row Main Street, Eastern Market Main Street, and many other local organizations have also put together informative resources specific to Capitol Hill that I encourage you to use as well.
Stay inside, wash your hand frequently, and don’t hesitate to contact me with thoughts, suggestions or questions. Stay safe, Capitol Hill.
Mayor Bowser is investing $25 million in the COVID-19 Recovery Effort and the DC Small Business Recovery Microgrant Program to help small businesses during this challenging time.
The Microgrant Program will offer grants to small, local businesses, individual contractors, self-employed individuals, and nonprofits to meet their short-term financial needs. The grant can cover employee wages and benefits (including fringe benefits associated with employment, such as health insurance), accounts payable, fixed costs, inventory, rent, and utilities.
While you are hopefully staying healthy and safe at home, don't forget your obligation to fill out the 2020 US Census.
DC residents east of the river, seniors and immigrants were historically undercounted during the 2010 Census. The census helps DC agencies allocate funds to important programs for residents of the District. Having an accurate count ensures that resources are appropriately allocated to all groups in our community.
