The Coronavirus and it’s disease COVID-19 is having a big impact on nearly everything we do right now. Our society and others around the world are in the grips of a fight like nothing else we have ever seen. There are so many adjustments we are having to make in order to keep ourselves, our families and our community healthy and safe in the face of this challenge. That is our top priority right now. We are focused on keeping this virus from spreading by following all “Stay Home, Stay Safe” recommendations from our government as ordered on March 23.
With this said, at Cascadia SUP & Surf, we feel fortunate for two important things. First, that the vast majority of our programs are outdoor experiences where we are able to take full advantage of the physical and mentally therapeutic nature of fresh air, sunshine and water. Currently outdoor spaces like Cook Park, are still open (with the exception of gathering areas like bathrooms and ball fields and courts) and getting outside is going to be essential during this important time of social distancing measures. The very nature and safety of our programs actually necessitate keeping a safe distance from each other while learning. And secondly, the seasonality of our programs means that we will not ramp up for a few more months now. This will hopefully provide the time necessary to flatten the curve and get this outbreak under control in time to have a great summer on the water.
With that said, and with our dedication to practicing good social distancing and following Governor Brown’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order we have decided to cancel all scheduled group Cascadia SUP & Surf PaddleFIT programs through the end of April. Because there is still so much uncertainty about the coming months, we will reassess the situation on a regular basis and convey our intended actions clearly and in a timely fashion so that we can make the most of the amazing water experiences that we have planned for our 2020 season.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding. Each and every one of you have been a big part of Cascadia SUP & Surf for the past 5 years and we hope you and your families stay safe, healthy and active in the coming weeks ahead. May you navigate these challenging waters with strength and love and we hope to see you on the water soon.
In Health,
Jeff Briley
