Upcoming Programs at Open Roads
Open Roads offers a variety of youth bike programs and has something for everyone! This summer we will be expanding The Fix to serve youth an additional day and are adjusting our times to better serve the community.
Although we will have to push back our Spring Earn-a-Bike Program due to current circumstances, be sure to check out our social media and website to stay up to date on registration when it begins.
Interested in hosting an Earn-a-Bike at your youth program, scout group, or class? E-mail Beth at info@openroadsbike.org to set something up or answer any questions you may have!
Open Roads Staff Spotlight
Meet Lynette!
Hello, I'm Lynette! I volunteered with Open Roads in summer 2019, and signed on as a bike mechanic instructor shortly thereafter. I sought out a position at OR because it centers young voices and enables young people to use their power. I am having a safe and productive quarantine - using my time to learn data science via EDX.org and Google python classes. I also self-taught catching a soccer ball on the back of my neck!
While it's important to continue practicing physical-distancing, it's still important to remain active and look after your physical and mental health. Bike riding is one of the best ways to get exercise and share time as a family, just remember these safety tips when riding your bike outdoors. Need a new place to ride? Check out these local trails and routes!
Remember to ride at least 6 feet from others and please stay home if you're sick!
Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition, in conjunction with the Kalamazoo Earth Day Festival, is excited to announce an Earth Calendar Challenge for the Month of April!
Thank you to Students for Sustainable Earth, WMU and Sunrise Kalamazoo for creating this month of challenges which includes opportunities to practice simple sustainability habits, learn about the environment and yourself, and most importantly practice self-care all while staying safe and physical distancing!
