To our Valiant Viking Families,
We hope you all are doing well and have had time to process the surprising end of our 2019-2020 school year. In August when the school doors opened, we could not have imagined that our school year would wrap up with distance learning instead of field day and classroom celebrations. We're sure your children, like ours, are struggling to make sense of their “new normal” and find some sort of routine and stability in their day. In time we will all find our groove, but in the meantime we hope you are able to take advantage of the slower pace of life together as best as you can.
As FCPS announced on Friday, a distance learning plan is in place and additional information will be released soon. For details, see www.fcps.edu. The VES teachers and administrators have told us they are busy working on their plans and will provide us with updates as soon as they are able.
As expected, the abrupt school closings have resulted in the cancellation of most scheduled PTA events, meetings, and after-school classes. Please see below for the current status of PTA-related activities and events. We will continue to announce updates in the Viking Voice newsletter and in posts on:

Keep an eye out for more upcoming virtual spirit days and other fun virtual activities to bring our community together. If you have ideas, please send them our way!
Last but not least, THANK YOU for your generous contributions to the gift card collection for VES families in need. We collected a total of $2,660 -- 55 physical gift cards were donated and we received $1,500 in PayPal/Venmo/cash donations, which we used to purchase 60 additional Giant gift cards. Ms. Baumer and Mr. Carmichael are distributing them to families.

After-School Classes: Cancelled. Last week we emailed parents of students enrolled in after-school clubs regarding refunds. If you did not receive that information or if you have questions please email president@ves-pta.org.
VES 5k/Fun Run: The race scheduled for April 26th has been cancelled. Race organizers will be contacting race registrants and sponsors soon regarding refunds. Please email ves5krun@gmail.com with questions.
Faculty Basketball Game: Cancelled.
VES Wine Out: The event at Vienna Vintner scheduled for April 30th has been cancelled. Updates on auction items will be posted soon.
March Food Drive to Benefit Food for Others: Cancelled. VES buildings are closed, but all food that had been collected or previously ordered on Amazon and sent to the school will be donated. You can still support Food for Others by going to its Web site: www.foodforothers.org
PTA Meetings: The Virginia PTA has advised local chapters that they can hold membership meetings by video or audio conference calls. Notices for upcoming meetings and information on planning for the 2020-2021 school year will be posted soon.
