Dear Friend,
Working with the video team on this unexpected video version of Sweet Land has been a bittersweet experience: bitter for the reminder of what was lost from the premature end of the live run, but sweet for the opportunity to be inspired anew by the power of these performances.
Nothing will reproduce the experience of watching those performances live and unmediated; of listening to the sounds of the city clash or unexpectedly harmonize with the music of the opera; or of taking in and contemplating the silent "main character" of the opera -- the land itself. If you're like me, nearly two weeks into an indefinite lockdown with only digital music to call upon, the loss of live music is weighing down on you. We all hope this will be remedied as swiftly as can be.
And yet, there's no easier way to ensure that The Industry can continue making live music again after all this is over than by supporting this video project. We would have loved to offer this video as free content, like other arts organizations are doing with previously captured concerts. But the early cancellation of the opera left us with an overwhelming loss of the ticket income necessary to pay for the production.
By paying a one-time fee of $14.99, you will get unlimited streaming access to both the "Feast" and "Train" sequences of Sweet Land. You will also be ensuring our ability to pay every artist, crew member, and support staff member to the full extent.
We need an audience of only 10,000 viewers to make up the loss of box office. After you've watched the video, please help us get to that number by sharing it with friends and family, letting them know why you want to see The Industry continue past this crisis.
And if watching the video inspires you to do more, please don't hesitate to write us here!
