Stay Home, Stay Safe, Save Lives
It is vital that we all work together to “flatten the curve” of COVID-19 cases by staying home. This is a critical measure to keep the public safe, contain the spread of the virus and provide relief to the healthcare system.

Watch this video featuring Glencoe Public Safety Deputy Chief Mary Saikin and Officer Jessica Tetzlaff as they share information on what to do if you feel sick and how we can all play a role in combating COVID-19!
CDC Introduces 'Clara' - Coronavirus Self-checker
If you have questions or concerns about potential symptoms of COVID-19, you can use the new coronavirus self-checker (also known as “Clara”), recently rolled out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The web tool will help you make decisions about seeking appropriate medical care.

While this is helpful in guiding your decision-making, the CDC advises that if you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice.

We are Continuing to Serve Our Community!
The Glencoe Village Hall remains closed while critical operations, including services provided by our Public Safety Department, Public Works Department and the Glencoe Water Plant continue to operate as normal. Village employees are working remotely to support administrative functions. Residents can access some Village services online and call or e-mail the Village with questions during regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).

Remember that if you need to call 911 for emergency services, please inform dispatchers of any risks for COVID-19 exposure, including symptoms such as high fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
Glencoe Park District Update
Glencoe Park District parks, the Glencoe Beach and athletic courts remain open for walking, jogging and biking so long as users keep a distance of at least six feet between each other in accordance with health officials' recommendations about social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19. To this end, the Park District actively discourages pick-up games and other team sports that involve close physical contact. All playgrounds have also been closed. Please practice responsible social distancing so these outdoor assets can remain open!

Garbage/Recycling Services Update

The Lakeshore Recycling System Services Updates
While Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) is continuing with separate garbage and recycling collection in the Village of Glencoe, please be aware that several services have been altered until further notice. All garbage and recycling materials must be placed in an approved garbage or recycling receptacle. Please do not place items at the curb that are not in a container. LRS requires that all refuse be placed in containers to limit their drivers' risk of COVID-19 exposure, as the virus is believed to live on surfaces for several days. Special pick-ups of bulk items, such as mattresses, white goods and furniture, are suspended until further notice. All items currently placed at the curb should be returned to your household. Landscape waste collection will begin on Wednesday, April 1 as scheduled. Landscape waste materials will still require an annual subscription or landscape stickers placed on bags, bundles and cans. Stickers are available for purchase at the Grand Food Center.

Please note that if you contact LRS, you may experience a delay as they are experiencing a high call volume at this time. Please contact LRS either through their online contact page or via email at Questions@LRSrecycles.com and LRS will get back to you as soon as possible.

Village Recycling Programs
The Electronic Waste Recycling Drop-Off on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Public Works Service Building is suspended until further notice. Other special recycling programs in the Public Works Service Building north entrance, including batteries, ink cartridges, cell phones, CFL bulbs and eye glasses are suspended as well.

Village Curbside Clean-Up Day and Donation and Recycling Day Canceled
The curbside Clean-Up Day event and the drop-off Donation and Recycling Day event, both scheduled for Saturday, April 18, have been postponed in an effort to minimize exposure to COVID-19. The next Donation and Recycling Day event is scheduled for Saturday, October 10. The curbside Clean-Up Day will take place on following Saturday, October 17. Please visit the Village website for any further updates for these events and more information on recycling.
Village Conducts Virtual Building Inspections
In accordance with the Governor’s Order, residential construction projects are allowed to continue. The Village is accepting permit applications and resubmittals and will conduct inspections virtually to keep projects moving!

Property owners can submit applications in PDF format and send to permits@villageofglencoe.org or drop off hard copy forms in the white mailbox to the west of Village Hall. Applicants can schedule a building, engineering and fence inspection by visiting the Village’s “Schedule Inspections” web page. When an inspection is scheduled, Village staff or inspectors will contact applicants with further instructions. The Village will conduct the inspection through FaceTime/video and photos.

Utility Service Updates
While North Shore Gas is continuing to deliver services, the natural gas provider is temporarily rescheduling inside safety inspection appointments to minimize contact with customers. The company will continue to perform essential services, such as turn-ons, meter work and responding to reports of natural gas odors. They have also suspended disconnections for all customers, except in the case of natural gas leaks or unsafe conditions, and are also waiving late payment charges. If customers are having trouble paying their bill, call North Shore Gas at (866) 556-6004 to discuss a payment plan or learn about financial assistance. More information can also be found here

ComEd has voluntarily implemented a moratorium on service disconnections for non-payment, effective immediately. This suspension will apply to both residential and commercial customers and will remain in effect at least until May 1. To further support customers who may be impacted by the pandemic, ComEd will offer flexible pay plans to customers who indicate either an impact or hardship as a result of COVID-19. More information can be found here.
Keep Calm and Carry Out / Shop Online
The coronavirus crisis is having a devastating impact on local businesses, but you can take steps to help our Glencoe business community! Local shops and restaurants are open for business – whether virtually or through carry out options. Residents should think local and shop local to support our community. A list of Glencoe restaurants and businesses along with their pickup, delivery and/or service accommodations can be found here
Wipes, cloths and rags are being found in sanitary sewers at an alarming rate. Many of these products are labeled as flushable, but while they may clear the toilet, they will most likely cause problems downstream because they do not break down and will have to be removed at the treatment plant or in pumping stations. This can cause major problems that impact the sewer system! Please remember: No Wipes Down the Pipes!
Sadly, scammers are trying to take advantage of consumers during this challenging time. There have been increased reports of scam and hoax text message campaigns and scam robocalls offering free home testing kits, promoting bogus cures, selling health insurance and preying on virus-related fears. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) offers the following tips to help you protect yourself from scams, including coronavirus scams:
  • Do not respond to calls or texts from unknown numbers, or any others that appear suspicious.
  • Never share your personal or financial information via email, text messages, or over the phone.
  • Scammers often spoof phone numbers to trick you into answering or responding.  Remember that government agencies will never call you to ask for personal information or money.
  • Always check on a charity (for example, by calling or looking at its actual website) before donating. (Learn more about charity scams.)
For more information about scam calls and texts, visit the FCC Consumer Help Center and the FCC Scam Glossary. You can also file a complaint about such scams at fcc.gov/complaints or contact the National Center for Disaster Fraud Hotline at (866) 720-5721 or via email at disaster@leo.gov.
